Good news for Huckabee TRIBUNE-REVIEW Salena Zito Posted January 22, 2008 3 :00 PM
Democratic strategist John Lapp said, "On first blush, it would seem that (Mike) Huckabee is the main beneficiary of Fred Thompson's withdrawal. Huckabee, Thompson and, to a lesser degree, Mitt Romney were splintering the hard core, evangelical, social conservative vote. With Thompson's withdrawal, Huckabee has the chance to consolidate the far right. However, if Thompson endorses John McCain, that would be a nice conservative credential to have, considering McCain has been struggling with the mainline conservative Republican base."

And who would that be?
Amen brother, I just can’t see Thompson voters (your truly included) flocking to McCain or the Huckster. This has got to be a plus for Romney.
With Huckabee there is a liberal/hypocrite factor that bothers some too.
Finally a man with a brain.
Uh that is BS!
The Dems are really worried about Romney. They need to weaken Romney by keeping Huck alive because they know Romney will sweep the republican vote (less the “independents”) if its down to just Romney vs McCain. If Huck loses badly here in FL, he’s gone. We could be done on super tuesday, with Romney having the dominant delegate vote locked up. Then we’ll really get to see the famous McCain temper.
I don’t think the Dems will be close to done on super tuesday. Lots of bitterness there as expected - in Dem land, the ends justify the means as its all about person and not the party or the principles.
Wishful thinking. The majority of Fredheads see Huck for what he really is and would never vote for him.
This is the stupidest analysis I’ve read in awhile. Huck will pick up practically zero Thompson supporters; we’ll mostly go to Romney, with perhaps a few to Giuliani and (ugh) McCain.
(And your ordering is very close to mine, too.)
Well him being in the race helped McCain the most. It was a lose lose situation.
Zell Miller could switch parties and win the GOP nomination in a landslide.
Sure would irk the heck out of Chrissieface Matthews.
Woman with a brain here. LOL
but they would say Romney proves GOP is the party of the rich corporations and that McCain proves the GOP wants a war in Iraq for 100 years and that Rudy proves the GOP is against black people for being tough on crime after Dinkins
so you can’t win either way
Huck’s problem is that he is a LIBERAL, not because he’s pro-life or against gay marriage.
Hey, pissant. Nice to see you back.
Too bad Hunter dropped out a few days too early... he may have been able to pick up some support with Fred out of things. Any chance we could get him to change his mind...?
(Wishful thinking, I know. But a guy can dream.)
I suspect he will not endorse until the general, when he gets behind the nominee. I'd feel betrayed if he endorses any of the other four.
That's already being propagandized. McCain filed a brief against Wisconsin RTLers in support of McCain-Feingold.
Most conservatives don’t have any idea about Huck’s liberal fiscal side.
All they know is his view on abortion etc. Hence, I can imagine MANY, MANY who support Thompson just switching to Huck without thinking.
Most Republicans are not on FR and frankly have never even heard of us.
I am going to switch to Romney I think despite his Mormonism, which sucks. But, he seems to be the next best candidate.
