If you think about it, his strategy was sort of like Thompson’s. They both wanted to do it ala Sinatra.
Well, it doesn’t work that way. From a campaign perspective, at least Huckabee and Romney have competed in every state and McCain has competed everywhere but Iowa. They did not try to do it their own way, they tried to play by the normal rules. But the two guys who didn’t want to go the traditional routes, Giuliani and Thompson, might collectively get less than ten delegates.
“Pander enough” Please, that’s been McCain’s schtick. Claim you are ‘straight talking’ while stating liberal talking points, pandering to the press and the liberal/moderates and then laying it on thick about service to country so you get enough of the conservatives to fall for the RINO who was once a war hero.
McCain is outlying and out-pandering to the max.
He is running ads in Florida about getting tough on immigration and closing the border. If the Huckster can flip-flop on immigration so fast and so hard, why not him?

Hilla-republic is what this place will be when McCain wins the nomination, with all the FReepers taking their marbles and going home. Say, “Madame President Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton” enough times, people. Fully appreciate what that phrase means: watching her pantsuited ass and listening to that god-awful shrill, shouting voice of hers. Wake up, people. We need to all commit to supporting McCain if that’s who gets the nomination.

Certainly not me. Rudy is a goner anyway, but between McCain and Romney, Romney is much better.

If he loses Florida--where he has virtually LIVED for the last few months--his campaign will have exceeded Howard Dean's when it comes to ineptitude (and Rudy didn't even have to scream...lol)!!!
It will be the mismanagement standard,,,,and 'model',,,for all future "how-NOT-to-run-a-campaign" strategies!! After all, how many candidates have EVER blown a lead as big as the one he had??
I cannot say for sure that he’s out. I can say that his chances are almost negligible, and diminishing rapidly. Perhaps he could win in a brokered convention ... but, it wouldn’t surprise me if he drops out before my state (Texas) votes — and I’d be equally unsurprised if Giuliani is out before Texas.
I’m scrounging for a third choice.

Romney has polled well in Missouri and Kansas in the primaries.
And in the general, the south will coalesce around whoever is the Republican. Add to that that Romney can bring us Michigan in the general and it’s huge 17 ECVs, and Romney is very viable in the general.
The buzz is Rudy Giuliani may have made a "great mistake by not campaigning in New Hampshire".....
Baloney. That's an old trick---manipulating voters.
Giuliani recently announced his top staffers are working gratis---b/c Giuliani wants voters to think he managed to spend all his campaign money without having actually competed in any of the early primary/caucus states.
The truth is that Rudy spent all his money because he HAS competed in all those states, and lost dismally. The number of times Rooty went to New Hampshire to campaign was second only to Romney.
Rudy just CLAIMS he hasn't been competing because the results show he is a bigtime loser, rejected by primary/caucus voters.
Although Giuliani talks big, and tries to cast himself as a warrior/hero, he cuts and runs when he feels competitive pressure. He chickened out of the Senate race vs. Hillary. More recently, he cut and run in Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan, and now South Carolina.
He's the gutless wonder....a talker, not a doer. He wins Florida or loses whatever credibility he has left (not much).

I agree. But my comment about Rudy going ‘all-in’ in Florida is not completely accurate either. After all, Rudy made 40 trips to New Hampshire,,,,and spent $5 million there—until finally realizing that they had no use for him in NH, at which time—he pulled out. That should have told him something right there.
Apparently, and despite all the folks here who tell us how badly he is doing in closed primary states.
As for FL, Real Clear Politics has him up by 3 in its average. SUSA put out a poll yesterday that has McCain up by 5. It's just Rasmussen who has him trailing.
When Rudy drops out, he will probably endorse Obama.

You can blame the conservatives if you like. The GOP leadership (actually NON-leadership) of Ken Mehlman and Karl Rove gave us this group of liberal RINOs. Blame them. Just remember that there is a large percentage of people out here that do vote our conscience, not just for "who can win".

The only good news is that after four or eight years of Hillary, if there’s a Constitutional electoral system left, the conservatives will retake the Republican Party.

Romney can win the Texas primary and Texas in the general election against any Democrat, should it come to that. He can certainly sweep the south against HRC, and it wouldnt hurt to have Haley Barbour on the ticket to nail that down tight.
As for Feb 5, it hinges on Florida. If Romney wins Florida, he will be competitive in any southern state which has voters who oppose McCain’s amnesty bill.
The only wrinkle is that Huckabee pulls enough social conservatives to give McCain plurality wins and may do so on Feb 5th even if he comes in 4th or 5th in Florida. (Huck’s pretty much done.)
Huckabee has been McCain’s god send, by splitting the fiscal cons from the social cons. McCain is able to win with lower total votes than he got in 2000, but today he is running against Huck and Romney, while in 2000 G W Bush united the Romney and Huck voting pools to defeat McCain. If Huckabee were truly out of the picture, then Romney could and would be competitive everywhere in the south against McCain on feb 5th, and would beat HRC everywhere there as well.
Yeah. Maybe he will write a sequel to his nonsense book, "Leadership."
