Democrats find a strange way to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King [NJ Gov Arrests Dissenters]

Democrats find a strange way to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King

With Martin Luther King Day upon us, it's nice to see New Jersey's Democrats honoring tradition.

By which I mean the tradition of Democratic elected officials blatantly violating the civil rights of those who disagree with them. That was a common tactic of the Democrats in the Deep South almost half a century ago...

"They were stopped by the police," said Porreca. "The police said, 'This is private property. You cannot distribute pamphlets. You cannot carry signs on this property.

"It was very, very scary, very intimidating. Some of these people started disappearing but [Fmr Bogata Mayor] Lonegan insisted on his right to free speech," said Porreca...

Porreca, who knows his way around the law after nearly a half-century on the bench, said he had never seen such a spectacle.

"It was very scary," he told me. "It reminded me of movies that I've seen of Russia and Germany."...

"What assurances do the citizens who oppose the Governor's plan have that they will not be arrested if they speak out against it at future hearings?"

This is what I got in reply:

"All I can say at this point is local officials are responsible for law enforcement and police protocol on site."

So there you have it. In other states, the Democrats honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a simple service. Only in Jersey do we get a re-enactment.

...The Governor who purports to be holding open meetings on his bonding proposal can't even decide whether New Jerseyans have First Amendment rights to make their views known on that plan by holding signs in the parking lot.

Steve Lonegan, the former mayor of Bogota, NJ, has been doing the yeoman's work of looking after the taxpayer for years and years.  He's a good man and willing to walk the walk.

He's been running ads in the NY/NJ area for the Taxpayer Minute as part of American's for Prosperity

The above is from Paul Mulshine's blog in NJ Voices (http://blog.nj.com/njv_paul_mulshine/2008/01/democrats_find_a_strange_way_t.html)

Here's the link to Paul Mulshine's column as printed in the Newark Star Ledger:

Let feds probe rights violations in Cape May

No surprise to denizens here that liberals scream like banshees about fascism and mythical violations of civil rights but happily cheer on the state using it's powers to eliminate opinions different than their own.

you can say that again..

the democrats in NJ deserve what they get.

the only problem is that they are dragging us conservatives down with them.

it’s the police state we’ve turned into that is scary.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea that Steve was in so much danger for merely speaking out.

"Whose signs is that over there?"

"They're all our signs."

"They're your signs..."

"These are public signs, yeah."

"Well, it needs to be moved right now."

"Nope."

"Arrest him."

I can't imagine how this arrest will be defended, but they'll come up with something.

“it’s the police state we’ve turned into that is scary.”

I’ve been say the same thing for about 5 years now. Quite frightening, even the judiciary is in on it.
