Goodbye Fred By Salena Zito
MANCHESTER (NH) -- Fred Thompson spent most of caucus night in Iowa hovering between third and fourth place -- a far cry from the lofty first-place position he held in Rasmussen's poll of likely Republican caucus-goers last June.
It has been a long time since Thompson has made a compelling reason to be in this race. And it should be a very short time before he confesses a compelling reason to exit stage right.
A bystander in his own race, Thompson's political what-could-have-been slipped through his fingers long before he announced his candidacy. "The process for running for president has begun so early," says GOP political strategist Charlie Gerow, "that if you are not in the game, you are not in the game ... and Fred Thompson was never in the game."

yawn...
SBSDD...
A better list would be 1) Thompson, 2) brokered convention, 3) doesn't matter after that since the RINOs are all interchangeable. You need to read your own tagline. ;-)
But you know use Fredheads are kooks. We have this crazy idea that Conservatives support a Conservative because they are, well, Conservative, not because they are flavor of the month with and R after their name...
By then, it’ll be too late.
The list I give is preference for the GOP nominee, regardless of how he gets the nomination.
However, you do have a point, so in the spirit of brokered convention possibilities, I will amend my list once again:
Thompson
Romney
Gingrich
Giuliani
McCain
There’s really no reason for Huckabee on my list, since really this is a list of candidates I would actually vote for in the general election. I’d vote 3rd party or sit it out if Huckabee was the GOP nominee.
My choices are as follows.
Thompson
Fred Thompson
FDT
Fred
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Why ignore the other great conservative candidates like, F. Dalton Thompson, Fred Dalton Thompson and F.D. Thompson?
Since those are the choices, I agree with you from top to bottom.
Never mind. I wouldn’t change a doctrinaire Mitt Romney supporters mind.
Good list, but you can take Newt off of it...too.
Romney
Giuliani
......
end of list as of now
LOL........ very good.
In truth Thompson did look a lot better maybe even before he pulled his socks off. He was looked at with high expectations according to the polls. But by the time he took the plunge his numbers were down and he hasn’t been able to get them back up and into contention.
He may back up and regroup for one more dive on Super Tuesday. If so I hope it is a 10 and not just a belly flop.
Coming in sooner would have allowed him to act as a front runner, rather than an also-ran. This forced him to try to climb his way up, rather than fight off any pretenders/challengers.
If he can muster up a full-fledged campaign until Super Tuesday, I’d be glad to see him continue. However, I’d rather see him drop out than just limp around with no enthusiasm left.

Sorry? Yeah, it's sorry. But not surprising.
Check yer premises.
So, in four years, the U.S. Supreme Court will have two more young Ruth Ginsburg clones that will keep Roe v. Wade the law of the land and abortion on demand legal in all fifty states for decades to come.
And, in eight years, after we have bugged out of Iraq and abandoned the geographical region containing 70% of the World's known oil reserves to Iranian Islamist nutjobs with suicide martyr dreams and nuclear-tipped ICBM ambitions, you will be feeling lucky that, although Aunt Peggy in New York and Uncle Charlie in Washington, DC can go up in a mushroom cloud if an Iranian mullah has a bad day, your particular city is not yet within Iranian ICBM range.
If the majority of the average American voters in primaries in 2008, are not tune with our philosophies at the moments, that's life. Life ain't perfect. Never was. Never will be.
When you are not sitting in the driver's seat of a car and the driver suffers a stroke, you can either continue to sit and pout that you were not allowed to drive on this particular trip or you can, at least, reach over and grab the steering wheel so that the out of control car veers towards the corn field instead of over the center line and into the 16-wheeler coming at you at 70 MPH.
