Don't let Fred quit.  

Fred HAS to win the Republican nomination!!!  Here's why:

  1. Our country has never faced greater peril than now.  Islam seek our destruction and the establishment of a world-wide caliphate.  Illegal aliens have invaded who threaten the rule of law and are continuing to do so.  Socialists are destroying the moral fabric and character of our country by advocating government control over every aspect of our lives.  Communism has resurfaced to threaten  Judeo-Christian values and promote atheism and mediocrity and the undermining of our economy.  We are under unprecedented physical, spiritual, moral, and financial attack by our enemies.
  2. Our country, as leader of the free world and a bastion of freedom, can not long survive if a Democrat or RINO is elected President in this election cycle.
  3. All of the other remaining candidates are RINOs and no Rino can win the general election this time.   Even if a RINO could win, the end results would be the same.
  4. The nomination of a RINO will destroy the Republican party for at least 20 years, if our country manages to survive that long. 
  5. Without a strong and true conservative to lead us, our country will not be able to withstand all the threats we are facing.
I realize that the odds are stacked against winning, but not insurmountable.  The RNC primary rules penalize the early primary states, and Fred has a devoted base in almost all the later primary states as well as most all of the Southern and Midwest states.  The egos of the RINOs will not allow them to drop out, resulting in a fractured and split result for the convention.  None of the delegates will support one of the other RINOs in a brokered convention, but they will support a true conservative. 

Even with limited funds, Fred can still prevail.  And the contributions will greatly increase with a clear and firm statement that he will continue through the convention.  Many of the voters fear wasting their votes and money on someone who will give up before the 'fat lady sings'. 

Give them what they want - a firm commitment - and the votes and money will come in like a tidal wave.   Do not acknowledge any possibility of loss.  Be resolute and absolutely believe that Fred will win, and convey that commitment to the people.   Fred needs to have and make this commitment, and so does his staff.  The MSM has too many times alleged that senior staffers have hinted of his dropping out.

I'd like to see a thread/sign up list, for FRedheads (only) to commit to hanging' tough with FRed.

I have 2 such lists of FRedHeads. So far I've only had one reuest to drop off and that was only to take some time off and regroup. Using my own small sample (aprox. 400 FReepers), Fred has lost no support at FR.

Politicalmom, has anyone notified you they'd like to be removed?

Fred could not even gather enough signatures to get on the ballot here. Maybe that says something.

How many of those petitions did you circulate? Did you sign one yourself? What did YOU do in YOUR home state??

That's because the ones who are whining the most are under the false delusion that Fred supporters will turn to Romney, McCain or Huck.

Unfortunately, by the results so far in this Republican primary season, Freepers are indeed a different cut of what used to make up the Republican Party. For the most part the folks on this thread that support Fred Dalton Thompson are in the truest sense "Constitutional Conservatives".

Unfortunately, the values of the Republican Party as witnessed in the last decade plus, are more populist in nature and geared around the acquisition and maintenance of political power, at any cost.

Fred Dalton Thompson is the only "Constitutional Conservative" left, as of this posting in the mix.

I believe we are approaching some more cataclysmic changes in the journey of our Republic. Many of us knew that the world as we have known it changed, with many, many unknown consequences to follow on September 11, 2001. The consequences of that change are still effecting us and the world and no one but God Almighty, knows where we are headed.

I believe, most emphatically that we are approaching the time our forefathers had in mind when they penned the Declaration of Independence and put the following philosophy into it very early on:

"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

Now to be sure I don't know exactly how "we the people" are to do this, but I do know the first step is at the ballot box with our votes.

It is for that reason, should the Republican Party at large place a candidate on their ballot who is, unlike Fred Thompson, no where close to a "Constitutional Conservative" I will not vote for their nominee.

George Washington warned in his farewell address about political parties. The following is a quote from that speech. You might need to read it more than once and aloud to get the exact point of his meaning:

"All obstructions to the execution of the Laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency. They serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community; and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common counsels, and modified by mutual interests.

However combinations or associations of the above description may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion."

I believe our "two party" system is beyond fatally flawed. It is broken, almost beyond repair. We need a Constitutional Conservative "leading the Republic" once again. And yet the two parties keep offering us populists that barter for our votes with benefits from them that stifle individual responsibility and achievement.

Long response, but it is why I have made the decision not to play their games any longer. A few others here on FreeRepublic have stated the same. A movement begins with but one ripple. Perhaps the time as come to let the self anointed royalty in D.C. know we aren't going to continue playing their game forever. This is "our" Republic - Not Theirs!!!!!

There has been much talk of Thompson’s principles. I prefer to take him at his word . . . which was he drew the line in the sand in SC and he won’t accept a VP bid. There is no further purpose to him taking money from people for something that cannot happen, nor take days or weeks from the lives of his staff in meaningless activity.

One certainly hopes he does not accept money from anyone successfully deceived if his only remaining purpose might be to split the anti McCain vote. I don’t think he will do such a thing. He is entering the closing years of his life and that is no way to go out.

The honorable thing to do is announce withdraw, commit to endorse the party’s nominee, and encourage his supporters to choose another in his stead.

When Giuliani rejoins the fray in Florida, the vote will be divvied up in interesting ways. It’s not over by a long shot, and Fred should stay in if only to keep the populists honest.

OH it DOES! Although its a bit harder for me to argue with them because I *did* vote for Perot in '92 and look what we got...but I can honestly say that NOW, I am MUCH better informed, and frankly, after the way the RNC has treated their base, I really dont care anymore. Its at a point now, that if they dont stand up for conservative principles and this country ends up with Clinton or worse (I consider Obama to be worse), then this country deserves what it gets. Im still PO'd about 2006.

Im with you though: dont make me responsible for other peoples stupidity.
