Why Bush really demoted Richard Clarke
by Jack Cashill
This is the fourth in a six-part series detailing the risks to American national security if Barack Obama (or Hillary Clinton) should ever choose to let Richard Clarke back into government. Clarke is currently one of Obamas top national security advisors.
When George Bush came into office, though he kept Clarke on at the White House, he stripped him of his cabinet level rank.
So lamented Leslie Stahl during the March 2004 60 Minutes profile that would make Richard Clarke ace crowd surfer in the intellectual mosh pit of the anti-war left .
For all anguished headbanging since, there was never any reason to lament. Documents I have received this week from a high level source suggest why Clarke was so stripped.
In reality, his demotion had less to do with Bushs negligence, as Clarke and others have implied, than with Clarkes own perceived incompetence.

"a sycophant and blowhard" are a few of the terms Cashill applied to Clarke during a recent talk on C-Span2...right on.....
Truth tellers are out there - Buzz Patterson come to mind - I’ve never seen him on Prime Time MSM for obvious reasons.
Competency was never a criteria for the Clinton Administration - just sycophantic loyalty borne of fear of the lethal hand of the Clintons if you ever cross them.
Clarke was an innocuous politico-military analsyst when he was chosen by Mort Abramowitz, chief of the State Department’s Intelligence and Research office, to do his office dirty work. Clarke, who seemingly had no proclivity for women or good times, spent long hours at a job he enjoyed and was a thoroughly detested individual. Abramowitz would later return the favor by giving Clarke a boost up the ladder at State. As noted in the previous posting, he was later dumped by Baker “who fired him for appearing to condone” the illicit Israeli transfew of US technology to the Chinese. Wyy he was saved by Scowcroft, who worked hand in hand with Baker, is a mystery that has never been resolved.
The only thing that I can come up with Scowcroft et.al. is that those folks are the “stabilists.” They like things just the way they are and Bush 2 upset that balance by invading Iraq. Baker has lots to lose, too, due to all his connections with the Muslim leaders of OPEC. What makes me crazy is the paradox of Bush leaving our southern border wide open and ignoring the ongoing invasion by the Mexican military, drug dealers using the poor people who flee the horrible life in Mexico as shills. Go figure.
LOL!
I remember Ann Coulter had an article a few years back when this hack was shilling his book on "59 minutes". It had a listing of all the terrorist incidents and it kept on repeating; "Richard Clarke, did nothing".
THAT was classic!! Thanks for the link.
I believe that ever since Bush got religion and joined the cultish and left-wing United Methodist Church he has a tendency to believe that one must love indiscriminately all of humanity — pootie poot, Muslims, Hugo Chavez, the Palestinian killers, the Saudi Wahhabites, Mexican drugrunners — to achieve redemption. Personally, I wish he were still on the bottle.
Bush knew he was an anointed one when he was still at Yale. Didn’t matter how drunk and obnoxious he acted, right up and past his own father’s inauguration. I don’t think our character changes much as we grow older - we just get better at hiding our demons. Bush and the Saudi king are still holding hands (literally) -the fix is in - Bush 1 & 2 and Clinton all support the same cause- One World with no sovereign nations remaining. Tell Putin and PRC to join in on that party - Hah...not likely.
Clarke is just a useful idiot who will say and do whatever he thinks will keep him in the loop. He was perfect for the Clinton administration because of his willingness to lie and deceive (TWA 800 comes to mind). Ol’ Bubba could care less about anything but himself - this little video tells the tale:

That name keeps popping up in the strangest places, what is his gig?
You will find the genesis of Scowcroft in Henry Kissinger’s “White House Years”. His name appears only once, but what an appearance (page 1156). Henry the K called the Brigadier General “a brilliant officer who later became my deputy.” And the rest, as they say, is history.
