A more accurate poll would have a fifth option: no one. Yep, thus I did not vote. "Write-in" was not an option either.

Die-hard conservatives thought that if I couldn't get everything I asked for, I should jump off the cliff with the flag flying--go down in flames," Reagan told the New York Times in 1985. "No, if I can get 70 or 80 percent of what it is I'm trying to get, yes I'll take that and then continue to try to get the rest in the future. When the enemy is within, success and power only encourages it. Sometimes that enemy only has one chance at domination and that's when you strike, even when it's going to be a setback for you.
You must always try to stand on principle if you're a conservative. Otherwise, there is no attraction to it because principle is what defines it.
McCain betrayed Republican principles when he betrayed the Constitution(Gang of 14), threatened our sovereignty(McCain-Kennedy) and put limits on free speech(McCain-Feingold). I intend to be part of the cure to this cancer and show America that no American is greater than the principles that founded it.
As far as pragmatism, I don't trust McCain to appoint conservative judges without making a few backroom deals. I definitely don't trust him on immigration, no matter what he says.
To: flaglady47
Wrong Why? Because the RNC says so?
He put liberals on the bench. He was a rubberstamp for the Rats. He's a gun-grabber. His own policy centerpiece is the biggest Socialist boondoggle since the Social Security Act. He's no conservative.

Thanks, Checkers. I am on dialup in Florida right now (had to make a quick trip), but if Backinthfold sees this, the poll list could be pinged?
(so slow is dialup, the hughhewitt.com isn’t coming up!)

This just posted at Freds web site.

Fred Thompson News
Freds mother is ill and her condition has deteriorated today. I ask that everyone and the candidates give the family space to make their own decisions about the process, and respect whatever his wishes may be.
UPDATE at 9:00 pm: To clear up some rumors floating around, just got word from the campaign:
1. Thompson has not pulled out of Floridas debate Thursday night yet. Fox News is wrong in their reporting yet again, at this stage.
2. Yes, she has been ill for a while, but has improved since earlier today.

I hope she recovers, or at the least, is not in pain.

Here's my poll idea. If Fred Thompson is the nominee for the Republican party will you:
Vote for Fred.
Vote third party.
Write in a candidate.
Stay home
Vote for your house pet.
Gee, I wonder what the results of this poll would be? Let's try the same poll with the other candidates and see what we get.

Would depend who’s on the top of the ticket. If Hunter/Thompson, I’d support them to the hilt. Otherwise, I don’t have a dog in this race.
It’s now anyone but Rudy!
Woo hoo!!

Ron Paul.
He has his foreign ploicy flaws, but he’s far and away better than any of the reamining libs. Barry Goldwater with bad foreign policy, I can live with that.
