Right To Life Group Sends Plastic Fetus In Mail

RACINE, Wis. -- A right to life group in Racine is under fire after mailing controversial material to 44,000 people.

It included an informational letter, a fundraising envelope and a small plastic fetus.

Mystical Listrom said she was not happy with what she found inside when she opened a letter from Wisconsin Right to Life accompanied by a plastic fetus.

"It's my right to choose to do what I want with my body. I shouldn't have people telling me what I can and can't do with my body," Listrom said.

Her neighbor, Glenda Pollock, got the same package.

"If they had sent a letter explaining why they think abortion should not be allowed, I wouldn't have a problem with that. It was the plastic fetus that bothered me," Pollock said.

"We thought it would be appropriate to send out some information to get people talking about the subject," said Dave Obernberger of Wisconsin Right to Life.

Dave and Bonnie Obernberger, with the Racine County chapter of Wisconsin Right to Life, are the people behind the mailing.

They said the plastic figure represents an 11- or 12-week fetus.

They sent it out this week to mark the 35-year anniversary of Roe Vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

"I pray that they'll look at it a little more than being offended by it, but being educated by it," Dave Obernberger said.

The Obernbergers said they have already gotten some response, and they expect more.

Pollock wasted no time having her voice heard. She brought the package to the post office and mailed it back.

"I had to pay to have it returned because it was a non-profit mailing, which I was happy to pay. It was just over $1 and it was well worth it," Pollock said.

Pollock filed a complaint with the U.S. Postal Service; however, it doesn't appear to be illegal.

Postal officials said it doesn't fit their standards of obscene or lewd, but they said people can fill out a form that would prevent them from getting mail from Wisconsin Right to Life in the future.

The mailers were sent to every home in Racine and to some of the surrounding suburbs.

“We’re already on it in a big way.”

It must be because I live near the “People’s Republic of Madistan.” We never hear of this work.

However, the local boards are constantly petitioning Pharmacies, demanding that they provide a bowl of “Morning After” pills, free for the asking to teens, at the check out stands. *SHRUG*

Got some links? Anyone in particular I’d like to support with my hard-earned dollars to save a life or two? Thanks!

I’m sorry for your losses and happy for the children you do you have.

I wonder what her position on prostitution is. How does she feel about public nudity?

Everyone that I know that is for abortion has already been born.

I beg to differ; my wife and I have experienced two miscarriages and one stillborn. We have also been blessed to have three healthy, adult children. It is a mystery that only God will be able to answer, when and if I’m worthy enough of entering heaven. I believe though, that our innocent neverborn children, having souls infused at conception, are already there.

Thank you for recounting your experiences.

I would think that those who have lost children probably understand more than anyone that the loss they feel is because their unborn child truly does have a soul.

That’s a fetus? It sure looks like a baby to me.

It’s really the same thing, the left just doesn’t like to be reminded of that fact.

I’m sorry but this is not how you win hearts and minds.

I disagree. A visual is far more powerful than just words or slogans. I would support enclosing pictures of actual aborted babies. Most people have good hearts but never truly think about what happens in abortions. They will be sickened once their eyes have been opened. Never again could they say it's a choice without feeling ill inside.

It doesn't bother me and I support use of pictures of aborted babies; however, I understand how they can be upsetting to some people, especially if they think their young children might see them.

Nevertheless, people need to understand that these are babies that are being slaughtered over 3300 times a day in the United States. It is not some "glob of cells," it looks like a baby because it is a baby.

It is very upsetting. The first time I saw those pictures from a link posted on one of these threads, I was sick to my stomach. But that is a good thing, imo. It angered me and steeled my resolve to never back down from some pro-abortionist.

This is the link I am talking about. I am sure you have seen it. For those who haven’t, please be advised it is not a pretty sight.

I've posted a couple of threads here about the pictures (I think the most recent was about a box van that either Priests for Life or Operation Rescue had going around the country) and there were several FReepers who I know for certain are very pro-life were disturbed by them.

However, I think another alternative might be to send people 3-D ultrasound pictures of babies in the first few months of development.

The pro-abortion people like to make abortion as abstract as possible. They don’t even like to mention the word abortion. They use “a woman’s right to choose” —choose what? They don’t like to even say “a woman’s right to choose an abortion.” They like to leave it unsaid because they know it is an ugly word.

For thirty years the feminists have used the most sophisticated Madison Avenue, public relations tactics to promote abortion. They have gotten around every objection to abortion by emphasizing the mantra “safe, legal abortion”. They get around the moral objections by claiming that it is just a bit of tissue and a foetus not a baby. So if it is safe, legal and it is only a foetus, not a baby- hey, why not? Why not get an abortion? Isn’t it like having an eraser on a pencil? If you make a mistake you can always erase it and start over again.

I think the plastic babies make the humanity of the aborted baby real. When you see it and hold it, you know what it is. It is a human baby.

Exactly! Then extrapolate that number across the 30+ years that this atrocity has been "legal" in our country and we find ourselves accountable for an American holocaust in the magnitude of ~40 MILLION human beings!

visuals are powerful but they can be nuclear. You can turn off people completely, like a switch, with that approach.

Unfortunately, the carnage of the American Holocaust now exceeds 50 MILLION souls.

And if one read the details of the abortionist’s report last week regarding the drop in abortion over the last decade, they seemed distressed that abortuaries weren’t “conveniently located” for many women.

yes an unsolicited plastic fetus in the mail is pretty shocking and very weird.

Inaction is cowardice. The group that sent out the replicas has shown their conviction to the cause of righteousness. Maybe it is time for more of us to afflict the comforted!

I was listening to a radio show the other day about the pro-life march.

A commentator made a good point.

Years ago we never said a woman was pregnant. We said she is “with child”

If we say she’s pregnant then the word fetus is used to hide the fact that it’s a baby.

If she’s “with child”, you can’t hide the fact that she is carrying a baby.

"If they had sent a letter explaining why they think abortion should not be allowed, I wouldn't have a problem with that. It was the plastic fetus that bothered me," Pollock said.

That was the point of the mailing.
