James Cagney dancing down the long staircase in Yankee Doodle Dandy is amazing. Especially since he’s looking straight ahead and not down at the steps.

That train photo instantly reminded me of the 1927 silent film, "The General" with Buster Keaton in which he wins the Civil War armed only with his beloved locomotive.....a movie that is among the most memorable in silent film history.
I can't remember if he won the war for the south or the north....neither, of course......but I DO know he won his southern belle sweetheart (Marion Mack) in this most stirring of Keaton's movies.

Matthais W. Baldwin is a name synonymous with great locomotives. His first locomotive “Old Ironsides” was built in 1832. The locomotive in the picture you posted is a very famous Baldwin locomotive. Baldwin built some of the best steam locomotives ever made.

James Cagney dancing down the long staircase in Yankee Doodle Dandy is amazing. Especially since hes looking straight ahead and not down at the steps. I wholeheartedly agree. It is one of the great scenes of American cinema. Cagney was a great dancer although he's usually more remembered for his "gangster" roles.

"The General" was indeed a great film. As you know from a previous post I think Buster Keaton is the best anyway.
One of the more memorable scenes from that movie is Buster setting on the "johnny bar" of the locomotive as it slowly moves forward.
With that "forlorn" look on his face.
It was classic Buster Keaton

It's ten-ish here where I'm broadcasting from Florida's fabulous Eden Roc hotel in Miami. Enjoying rum and coca colas with a young Frank Sinatra, Peter Lorre, Danny Kaye.... and Bugsy Siegel just back from Havana gambling with his stunning girlfriend, Virginia Hill.
The "Memorable Movie Moments" contest is now officially closed. Thanks to all you dears for participating..
I'll be back for a final curtain call tomorrow when I'll post the names of the 10 winning contestants....all of whom will have a contribution sent in their names to Freepathon Headquarters.
Plus, there may be a Special Achievement Award or two for an extra surprise.
See you tomorrow early evening on this thread.
Your loving name dropper, Louella
