Pro-Clinton union members handing out T-shirts as Strip workers gather to caucus
By Charlotte Hsu · January 19, 2008 · 11:26 AM
Members of the pro-Hillary Clinton AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees), walking into the lionâs den, are handing out Clinton t-shirts outside a Paris Las Vegas ballroom as Strip workers are gathering to caucus in a few minutes.
The AFSME members were not hesitant in identifying themselves to me as they handed out white T-shirts, clearly intended to be be worn by Culinary workers who are prepared to break ranks with the unionâs endorsement of Barack Obama.
The T-shirts read, in bold red, capital letters: âI support my union, I support Hillary Clinton.â
Las Vegas is the power center of Nevada and the Culinary Union is the labor power in Las Vegas.
So when many, if reports are correct, Culinary union members break ranks with their leadership and openly support Hillary Clinton - then something serious is afoot.
T-shirts! We like t-shirts!
Sounds like a plan.
I thought it was illegal to hand out campaign items that close to a polling place—are caucusing places allowed to do that?
the power of fearing arkancide
The unfortunate truth is that as Vegas gets bigger it will soon overpower the rest of a state that is very conservative. Build 5 more mega hotels on the south end of the strip and the state may go blue. Kalifornication.
He was out-psyed
I am sure than the union members thought about the choices and voted with free will and there was no strong arm tatics...HAHAHAAAAAA
It is the Hispanic vote.
Nevada is very heavily populated with Hispanic workers. The kitchens in every casino, the housekeepers in every casino, construction etc.
The fly in Mr. Obama’s ointment is the open rebellion among Hispanic union voters to vote for a black man.
(/ Political Correctness)
The implications of this development are staggering. While those who interact with the Hispanic community intimately fully understand this proclivity - other may not.
Be that as it may, there is no reason to believe that this trend will not carry forward to the national level.
And when it does you have an interesting irony. Clinton will gather the lion’s share of Hispanic voters and the deeply establishment liberal white vote.
Leaving the swing vote in the 2008 presidential election to black Americans.
Will they support Hillary? Or will they generate the type of electricity that swept Chicago when Harold Washington became a realistic candidate for Mayor.
It is fitting that they have this choice - it will be fascinating to watch.
The DHS needs to go up and down the strip and raid every hotel that employs illegal aliens and every casino kitchen that employs illegal aliens. Then they need to go to the airport and raid every car rental agency that has illegal aliens working as mechanics. It’s time to clean up that town.
Maybe Obamma should have had his folks hand out booze?
Obama won Nevada, 13 convention delegates to 12 for Clinton.
Clinton won Nevada the same way Gore won in 2000. She lost.
Love the spin ‘they’ are putting on that. It is meaningless in the eyes of the klintoons....yeah right....
One of the ‘better’ explanations of why the popular vote sometimes isn’t enough (Electoral College)...
IN THE WORLD SERIES THERE ARE 7 GAMES. FIRST TEAM TO WIN
4 GAMES IS THE WINNER. PERIOD..
Just because you won 13-0, 12-1 and 15-2, means NOTHING as long as you lost 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0. The fact that you outscored me 40-7 means zip in the end.
This is evidence of the serious problem the Dems have for the November election. Hispanics will not support an African American for president and African Americans will sit it out if Obama is defeated. The Dems need 90% of the African American vote to win.
They lose with either candidate.
—exactamente—
I’m tellin’ ya; the Clintons are NOT going to lose. No matter what they have to do, they are NOT going to lose this nomination. Now,.....
.....the General Election will be harder for them to win.
Will they support Hillary? Or will they generate the type of electricity that swept Chicago when Harold Washington became a realistic candidate for Mayor.
In 1992, Perot's candidacy separated the Reagan Democrats from their Republican moorings. Once set free, not all of them drifted back to the GOP.
The Obama candidacy may have the same impact on black voters, unmooring them from the establishment Democrat party. Then, once Hillary becomes the nominee, they won't all drift back to the Democrats.
Good summation.
