I agree with this. We need lower tax rates. Handouts won’t do much. On the other hand, to blame it on Bush is pretty ridiculous. He doesn’t control the Congress. The Democrats do, just as they did during the 2001 recession.

And that ought to be a clue to why we’re apparently going to have a recession. Does anyone other than me notice that everytime the Democrats take control of Congress, a recession starts shortly thereafter?

I agree with you 100 percent, but it’s easy to put the blame on the president if you are clueless. Have yoou also noticed how much the Stock market has fallen since the dems took over?

A supposedly conservative site arguing against giving us back some of our own money.

Nothing wrong with giving us back our money, but don't expect it to help the economy.

First of all it’s not a handout but a non-collection of revenue with a touch of redistribution, and secondly what would be the effect of transferring $100 billion of private debt to public debt?

I count on Congress and the Pres to do the WRONG thing, and deepen/prolong the pain.

Temporary borrowing to fuel consumption is the worst way to stimulate the economy, helps China more than it helps us.

I will treat the money as Congress exercising it's power to provide for arming the militia. $800 would go a long way toward a nice Bushmaster flat top M4 style carbine. For some other brand names, it would go all the way. :) And China won't see a penny of it either.
