I have a new story up on Fred Thompson's campaign finale here in South Carolina. The short version is: Thompson, the man who in the conventional wisdom has come to define low-energy campaigning, was absolutely riveting. He was engaged and impassioned and devoted his entire talk to conservative first principles. In turn, the audience was enormously enthusiastic. Which of course led to the inevitable observation, made by a woman standing next to me near the podium, "Where was this six months ago?"
After Thompson's speech, I hurried from Greenville back to Columbia to catch Mike Huckabee's last campaign event, at the University of South Carolina campus. It was a truly low-energy affair, with a three-quarters-filled room and a really bad band. The highlight of the night was the live appearance of the two guys who have reworked a bunch of classic-rock hits into Huckabee campaign songs and gotten a zillion hits on YouTube: "Here's to you, Mister Huckabee, Jesus loves you more than will know. Whoa, whoa, whoa. God bless you please, Mister Huckabee, the White House holds a place for those who pray. Hey, hey, hey."
In contrast to Thompson's first principles, Huckabee gave his populist, I-care-about-the-little-guy appeal, well delivered as always but not really connecting with the college crowd. At one point, he actually used the phrase, most associated with Bill Clinton, that people are in "a world of hurt." By the end, the strongest impression the event left was that the people on stage were a really motley crew, led by professional wrestling star Ric Flair, who has endorsed Huckabee and has been traveling around South Carolina with him. When Huckabee said that he was going to make Flair head of Homeland Security a joke he usually uses with Chuck Norris my wife, who has come along for this trip and is no fan of Huckabee's, leaned over to me and said, "Why not?"
Remember, most political upsets occur with surges in the last week before the election that polls do not pick up on fast enough. Ventura was charging hard in Minnesota, but still trailing Coleman and Humphrey in the final polls, before winning by 3.
Perhaps Fred can pull off a stunner that would immediately vault him to front-runner.
After Hucksters ‘livng breathing Constitution’ comments, I wouldn’t vote for him as a Waste Sewage operator.
One can only prayer to the JudeoCHristian God that their eyes are OPENED. The Huckster is no “Christian” in his political principles. He’s a humanist who is stuck on socialism.
“Where was this six months ago?”
That’s my question to Fred too. Fred is letting folks down. I suspect it’s too late ... .

I’d like to see that. If not, Fred will have to drop out and that leaves me with Mitt.
Huck deliberately lied about Thompson numerous times. That is “bearing false witness against his brother.” How does that jive with the man of God claim?

everyone should read the article by York that inspired the blog post...it is excellent!
It's never too late until after the voting is done. Also, there is not a clear winning candidate for those followers who want to vote for the winner. When voters get in the booth, they will get serious about who they really want in that office. Hopefully, that will work in Fred's favor. GO FRED.
Fred has always been promoting coservative prinicples, there is nothing new about his current campaign. Its just that he is getting noticed now whereas he was completely ignored before. That, and it REALLY matters right now. People bought into the no-fire-belly horsecrap and now, when they see it is horsecrap are still unable to admit they were fooled by MSM/Fox all along.
Huck is NO Christian. Huck has his own Gospel. He constantly LIES. It’s not just once or twice it CONSTATNLY. I wish he’s live MY GOD out of it. He doesn’t represent MY GOD.
Huck doesn’t even have a theology degree as e claims. He has a degeee in RELIGION and a minor in communications. He dropped out of Theology school - yet he claims to “be the only one with a Theology Degree” running. He’s sickening with his HUMANISTIC speak and finacning it by socialism - TOTALLY UNBIBLICAL! Huck forgot about his verse too: Matt.16:26 [26] For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mark.8:36 [36] For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Yeah, I'm a BIBLE believing Christian. I know my Bible. Huck does NOT represent Christian teachings at all.
The ARG poll shows Thompson up and though in the past it has been unreliable it may be correct. I checked the previous polls in SC and the ARG has tracked fairly well with the others. Also a lot of stuff has reached a head over the past couple days. Push Polling (Huckabee) Thompson has been energized and running hard and he has hit out at Huckabee and everytime he does he takes him down a notch. Also there is the very good news of SNOW! Keep the fn liberals, independent whiners at home. They shouldn’t be choosing our nominee anyway and they are exactly the ones who have allowed McCain to crawl back to victory in New Hampshire.
There is a silver lining. I don’t expect Fred to be first but I think there is a real chance he could in an upset place second.
Here’s a scary thought: If so many Christian “conservatives” can’t recognize Elmer Gantrybee when they see him, how hard are they going to fall for the real antichrist when he comes along?
I’ll still vote for Fred. If he’s out then Mitt has it.

Yes, and I think this energized Fred’s campaign. Good turns evil on its head.
Exactly, he has lied about other candidates. John McCain love him or hate him has a Pro-Life record. They’ve been calling around saying “Ron Paul” is crazy so maybe they aren’t all wrong. lol
I wonder if there are any South Carolina Freepers who got to go to Fred’s Pre-election Rally in Greenville last night. Sure would like to get a report from someone who was there! GO FRED!
It's ok for him to do that because Jesus really really wants him to be President. So he can do what needs to be done to accomplish God's will.
“Where was this six months ago?”
The majority of people I talk too are already sick of this campaign stuff and wonder why it is all so early. Hopefully they won’t be starting the 2012 campaigning in 2010.
“One can only prayer to the JudeoCHristian God that their eyes are OPENED. The Huckster is no Christian in his political principles. Hes a humanist who is stuck on socialism.”
I have been praying the true character of all the candidates will be revealed.
After Hucksters livng breathing Constitution comments
Huck is a quagmire of contradictions. He wants to destroy the very fabric that allows him to stump and preach.
