"At some point I hope that people will realise that their fear of a false conversion for Mitt is misplaced, or at least is less of a fear than the real danger of a democrat president replacing 2-3 supreme court justices with 50-year-olds that will be there for 30 years."Bears repeating.

His great great-granddad left the USA with his 5 wives and herd of kids because polygamy was against the law. Somehow, his dad and mom relocated back in the states. Give me bonifide proof it wasn't an illegal crossing and I'll consider the talk as a walk. Otherwise, we have an anchor baby strongly running for POTUS.I cannot believe what I'm reading.

Please do NOT make this into a Mormon-bashing thread. You have the Religion Forum for that. We are talking politics on this thread. Let’s keep it that way... thank you.
To: Antoninus
Except Romney is running on a conservative platform, much more conservative than the one Bush ran on.
If he turns out different, it will be because he has lied to his own party to get elected. I don’t think for a second he is, but if that’s the case it won’t destroy the party, it will strengthen it to punish him for lying.
The problem is when you compromise your principles and vote for people who are actually running on issues you disagree with. Then when they get elected and actually IMPLEMENT those things, you scream and cry and complain, but it’s your own fault.
That’s why I don’t think we can support McCain who is “telling the truth about being against us”, because his election would show we weren’t serious, and when he goes against us we’ll have no valid complaint, and will instead be demoralized.

So far your political judgment, has been way off. I think I’ll go with my own, thank you very much. : )

If they do, it will be because they reject the plan in place now.

All I want is a legal paper trail. That’s my beef with Romney. If it is wrong, I couldn’t give a flying fig if he’s mormon. I can’t find anything to dispell it.

It looks like we need a brokered convention and a whole new slate of candidates. Of course that won’t happen. The sheeple haven’t figured out who is running now, much less know about dark horses.

So far your political judgment, has been way off.
My judgment is that I support the most conservative candidates and eschew the phonies. Sorry that doesn't jive with yours, which is, apparently, "Principles be d@mned. Politics (and a nice hairdo) is all that matters.
I think Ill go with my own, thank you very much.

Of course, you’re Mormon-bashing. Hello, don’t try to insult our intelligence. And the anchor-baby bit just covers you with tinfoil.
To: CharlesWayneCT
Boy, wasn’t that focus group a hoot? I had no idea there were so many stupid people in Las Vegas. You’re right about Obama vs. Romney, except I don’t think his race will need to be an issue. His lack of experience will be so evident next to Romney he’ll look like a kid at the grown up table. I do think it is an interesting comparison socially. Obama smokes, did drugs, rebelled against his parents, wasn’t raised in the states, supports abortion for any reason at any time. Romney doesn’t smoke or drink, was raised in Michigan, the blue collar heart of America, followed in his father’s footsteps, came to understand that abortion is murder as an adult. Also I think Ann Romney is such a lady she makes Michelle Obama look like a shrew in comparison. Can’t stand Michelle Obama.

Kinda sounds that way already. Hunter gone and Fred on life support.

"But she's wrong. The worst we get is the situation we have here in NJ after a Romney presidency--a Republican party that's not functionally conservative anymore, and that actually punishes conservative candidates. And 20+ solid years of uninterrupted Democrat rule." That's true of Giuliani because he's not running on a Republican platform, and has not reached out to conservatives. If he wins the nomination he will change the Republican Party platform, and make conservative social issues irrelevant.
It isn't true of Romney. He's running on a pro-life conservative platform, compatible with the GOP platform and he's reached out to conservatives, many of whom have a prominent role in his campaign and will have a prominent role in a Romney administration. Big difference.
I suggest you do some more thinkin' on it. : )
