I think the early data tends to show, as I have been saying for nine months, that the irreconcilable segment of the GOP (will stay home rather than vote for McCain, Romney, Rudy, or Huck) is about 5-15% of the voters.

Big enough to defeat any GOP nominee except McCain or Rudy (but Rudy only if he gets to run against Hillary), but not big enough to do anything on their own.

Duncan Hunter got 467 votes IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Think about that.

Thompson would help offset uncertainty about McCain among conservatives.

No it wouldn't. THIS conservative would send an email to Fred's campaign telling him to stuff his endorsement where the sun doesn't shine & the wind only blows in one direction!

Hope Fred is better than that, but if he can't do better than this in SC, it is time for him to go back to TV.

Georgia was looking promising not sure now. Dont see any way in this current enviroment for Fred to get enough delegates to make a difference.

Shortly if not already people will begin to pick the less repulsive for them between Mitt, Mccain, Huck.

Sadly you are right.

I think my next choice will be Mitt.

Florida should be very interesting. McCain’s going to have to raise a ton of money...fast...if he’s to compete in that expensive media market. And the Straight Talk bus can only make so many stops in a day.

Huckster speaking. Ah ha ha, he’s so funny.

At least it’s pretty much over for him too.

If McCain’s pollsters believe Thompson dropping out will send his people to Romney, he will be instructing Thompson to stay in, as part of the price of VP, if McCain wins the nomination. Then when (if) McCain does, he’ll pick someone to bring him some Electoral Votes and backstab Thompson.

The worst of all possible worlds for Conservatives in 2008 would be McCain getting elected President.

Excepting, IMO, the other three Horsemen of the Apocalypse on/of conservatism.

McCain got a boost because the military success of the surge. He held on to his base of independents from 2000 and then picked up conservatives and vets who think he'd make a good CIC.

According to Sean he also got a boost from conservatives and evangelicals. Huh? Exit polls should be interesting although I may not like the results I'm hearing.

Huckabee is FULL OF **IT right now.

He ran a civil campaign that didn’t attack anyone? Sheesh... how does he explain the TWO push poll calls to my house and three other robocalls that attacked the other candidates?

Liar.

At least with a Democrat Leftist Administration, as opposed to a McCain Leftist with a GOP Label Administration, the Democrats would get all the political fall out of their disastrous political decisions

John.....you better think this one over again.

We will not survive if we turn the keys over to Hillary and Bill the Sequel....

Hell man they tried for over a year to get us to surrender to Al Qaeda in Iraq....imagine Hillary and a DEM House and Senate.

Lord help us.

Big enough to defeat any GOP nominee except McCain or Rudy (but Rudy only if he gets to run against Hillary), but not big enough to do anything on their own.

That irreconcilable number will be higher than 15% for Abortiani or Flip Romney--and probably for Huck, too. Huck's only advantage is that he would be fairly well set in the South where the GOP MUST win. Rudy and Flip would have to actually campaign in those states and would probably lose some of them.

Mitt has been my number 2. So it looks like I’ll be voting for Mitt in Florida on Jan 29th. Either Mitt or Rudy must win Florida.

I lived in Massachusetts. I saw Flip run in 1994. That's why I want nothing to do with him. He's an opportunistic fraud and will stick it to conservatives while pretending to be on our side. That's exactly what he did in Massachusetts as governor. Vote for him at your peril. I want nothing to do with him.

He's probably the next POTUS and the country is screwed.

Cornpone Huckleberry of the religious left still has hurt feelings over Thompson stomping him in the last debate...
