Today is the day.
Posting that pic was mean. Threw up in my mouth.
>>I believe that South Carolina is a closed Primary state. Voters vote in the primary according to their party registration. So no crossover voting. Anyone??
I wish that were true, but no. SC has open primaries. Today is the GOP’s and the next Saturday is the Dim’s.
The Huckabee supporters who are begging folks to vote for Huckabee so McCain wont win are desperate. They know that McCain wont win even though the MSM has McCain ahead in all their news polls. Remember the MSM wants McCain first or Huckabee second to be our nominee. They know Hillary can beat either one. So folks who really like Fred but think they should vote for Huckabee because they think it will keep McCain from winning are foolish. McCain is being proped up by the media. He did not win SC in the past, and wont now. And who would want Huckabee since he is just a pro-life liberal? Fred is the only conservative! I have hope that the folks in South Carolina who like Fred will vote for Fred! GO FRED!
“I dont believe that labelling all these candidates RINOS is constructive.”
The term RINO has gotten so deluted it’s meaningless now. I remember when there was a set group (McCain, Hagel,Snowe etc). Now I’ve seen people refer to even Ann Coulter as a RINO!
If you were to vote in South Carolina (I'm glad you're not) wouldn't you rather deal with Huck NOW?
I'm going to leave this alone now, because I know I'll never figure it out.
You're welcome to disagree with me. But that doesn't make me nutty.
No, I do NOT want Fred out next week. We'll see. And no, I do not think the best time to deal with Huck is now---I think SC is the place to stop McCain.
It seems very likely that tonight we'll see McCain victorious and Fred a distant 3rd. Maybe Fred will stay in. But the McCain train will have a new head of steam and that scares me to death. McCain is COUNTING ON a split conservative vote...his strategy is built on it. I'm sorry Fred is caught up in such a mess, but that's the way the cookie is crumbling.
I agree with an earlier poster who said McCain would be the worst possible nominee (well, except Huck, but I don't count him a serious possibility). McCain not only doesn't agree with many of my conservative principles. I think he's HOSTILE to them after his defeat in SC in 2000. Oh yeah, he's played kissy face this cycle. But given the opportunity he would stick his finger in our eye at every opportunity----and bask in the glow of media approval as he did it.
Thus, I would rather see Huck win in SC. I don't think McCain could survive the loss. It would be painful watching the media depict the GOP as a bunch of knuckle dragging throwbacks for supporting Huck. But we know we're not and Huck will be beaten later.
Carry on and GO FRED!!!
It's ridiculous amateur hour politiking. The guy's being too clever by half. That kind of thinking would never really enter into the head of a real Thompson supporter...sounds like a scenario the Romney team may find palatable.
Barry went a little soft in the head at the end.
Well said!
If the election is between Clinton and McCain the problem with not voting is the supreme court vacancies that will open up. Ginberg and Stevens will leave and as much as I dislike McCain, I’d rather he choose their replacements. Even if they amount to two Anthony Kennedy’s it’s preferable to two Ginsbergs. In fact there are numerous spots throughout the federal judiciary in which McCain appointments are preferable.
The GOP may suffer for a few years as a result of McCain but America has a short memory. Those judicial appointments, though, will last decades.
If all the McCain haters would vote for Fred, Fred would win and McCain and Huckabee would lose! That simple! It most likely would come in Fred - Huckabee - McCain.
OK if dems crossover to vote in the Rep primary trying to push Mc C. or HUCK then it become OBVIOUS that those primaries with crossover are biased and THEN can’t be the main criteria, the deadline, deciding the nomination...
Right?
There has been a RINO stampede of the GOP. Tancredo, Hunter, and Thompson are the only non-RINOs (i.e. who knows what Romney is from day to day).
The Elephant is being replaced by the RINO.
If you think it is okay to embrace an ideology that takes us on the road to Socialism (but you argue not as fast the Democrats), then you are having your way. Congrats.
Otherwise. Be afraid! Be very afraid.
I'd be very surprised if Fred would ever run in the 2nd slot. He knows how unimportant it is (Cheney was an anomaly). It's usually a steppingstone to the Presidency for someone 10 years younger than Fred.
I can't imagine he's interested in anything other than the Presidency. All that said, I hope he stays in for Florida no matter the outcome today. As has been mentioned on several other threads, he seems to be hitting his stride.
This is a race for delegates and he's still got time.
oh ... forgot to add ... Tancredo is out of the race ... Hunter will probably be soon ... and Fred as well if he doesn’t do well today.
I can’t even deal yet with the idea of McCain being the GOP nominee, BUT ... back in 1980, the contest was fierce between the conservative Reagan and moderate Bush (41) factions of the party.
Reagan chose Bush as his running mate because ultimately what they agreed on was more important than where their positions diverged. If he’d chosen his political soulmate Goldwater, who was still ocnservative in 1980, he never would have been elected, but I guess he could have stood on principle.
Did choosing Bush make Reagan a sell-out, or diminish respect for him?

I don’t get it either. I know Lindsey Graham was mocked because of the amnesty bill, but McCain seems to get a pass and IT WAS HIS BILL.
It is an open primary. But if you vote in the Republican primary today you can’t vote in the DemocRat primary next week.
