Their unwitting strategy has a cult like grip on the lives of black Americans and is reassuring to many poor to middle class racists and/or liberal white Americans that their relative social stature will be preserved.

I have not yet read the entire article, just bits and pieces from the responses. Why? Because last election - in Maryland - showed me that blacks - as a whole - will march lock-step with the Dem party no matter what that party does to them. I have written them off as ever voting for Republicans. Someone convince me I am wrong.

Sorry. This article was previously posted under the title, "Clintons Lose Their Claim on Race Card." Here's the

Wait ‘till Obama’s church and pastor start getting scrutiny. Wanna talk about a race backlash - let’s see how America likes Obama’s Afro-Centric Church with Louis Farakhan as 2008 Man of the Year?
Yeah, he’s not racist a bit.

Didn’t LBJ make a statement after he signed the Civil Rights Bill that said (paraphrased) that he just guaranteed the votes of the N****** to vote Democrat for decades to come?
To: Puzzleman
In my view, the real problem with Clinton's statement was the implied historical analogy -- that the subordinate position King held in relation to Johnson, a function of the discrimination and disenfranchisement of the time, somehow needs recapitulation today when none of those conditions apply. Exactly. Hillary's statement didn't make any sense to begin with. She was comparing herself with LBJ and Obama with King, but she didn't give any reason why Obama would not end up as president instead of herself.
To: Puzzleman
“The King-Johnson analogy is dead because the times are radically different. Today an African American can be in a position to wield the emancipation pen — and everything else that goes along with the presidency: from making foreign policy to renting out the Lincoln Bedroom (if one is so inclined). Why should African American dreams still have to go through white liberals?”
Good Question
