Given the gas-guzzling behemoths that so many of us in the West feel entitled to, it would seem hypocritical to begrudge people in poor countries an affordable car. Much like the hypocrisy of the dealers who have resisted Tatas bid for Jaguar on the grounds that Indian ownership would erode the brands prestige.
The sad fact is that the world has changed since Americans celebrated the egalitarian breakthrough of the Ford Model T. We know now that gas-driven automobiles do terrible damage to the environment, and the notion of loosing millions upon millions of new carbon emitters on our planet is not something to celebrate.

Anytime liberals purport to care about the poor, show them this editorial. They care nothing for bringing people out of poverty, improving living standards, and reducing the outrageous global wealth gap. They care only for their trendy p.c. causes.
Thank goodness for men like Ratan Tata. I only wish we had more men like him.
Well, if the enviro-weenies were really that concerned about emissions of CO2 from India, they should have covered India under the Kyoto agreement.

So, did a previous NYT editorial support, deny or didn’t comment on Kyoto not applying to India and China?
And it would be wrong of the Jaguar dealers to discriminate against Tata on the basis of race.
And most of us would probably agree that Jaguars are overrated.
But I can understand the viewpoint of Jaguar customers who are concerned that their favorite auto company being taken over by a firm that creates stuff like the Tata Nano -
Williams is predicting that we will have a massive recession if not a depression before long.
He bases than on many factors such as countries dumping the dollar, inflation at 11 to 15 percent and a few other items.
If we do have a sharp downturn many of these so called environmentalist, Code Pinko’s, anti-Americans who now live on easy street may be hoping that they don’t starve to death worrying their dumb heads as to whether a future generation a 1000 years from now has a coastline.
Tata does a lot of stuff-from building trucks to running hotels to institutions of high-end science research. They would probably be manufacturing aircraft in the future.
