The Case Against Hillary Clinton
Slate ^ | 14 January 2008 | Christopher Hitchens

Posted on 01/15/2008 12:38:09 PM PST by Lorianne

Why on earth would we choose to put the Clinton family drama at the center of our politics again? ___ Seeing the name Hillary in a headline last week—a headline about a life that had involved real achievement—I felt a mouse stirring in the attic of my memory. Eventually, I was able to recall how the two Hillarys had once been mentionable in the same breath. On a first-lady goodwill tour of Asia in April 1995—the kind of banal trip that she now claims as part of her foreign-policy "experience"—Mrs. Clinton had been in Nepal and been briefly introduced to the late Sir Edmund Hillary, conqueror of Mount Everest. Ever ready to milk the moment, she announced that her mother had actually named her for this famous and intrepid explorer. The claim "worked" well enough to be repeated at other stops and even showed up in Bill Clinton's memoirs almost a decade later, as one more instance of the gutsy tradition that undergirds the junior senator from New York.

Sen. Clinton was born in 1947, and Sir Edmund Hillary and his partner Tenzing Norgay did not ascend Mount Everest until 1953, so the story was self-evidently untrue and eventually yielded to fact-checking. Indeed, a spokeswoman for Sen. Clinton named Jennifer Hanley phrased it like this in a statement in October 2006, conceding that the tale was untrue but nonetheless charming: "It was a sweet family story her mother shared to inspire greatness in her daughter, to great results I might add."

She is. Beast. Incarnate.

You knew how much I would appreciate Christopher Hitchen’s brilliant reminder of why America must not fall prey to another Clinton administration. God, spare us....please!!

Indifferent to truth, willing to use police-state tactics and vulgar libels against inconvenient witnesses, hopeless on health care, and flippant and fast and loose with national security: The case against Hillary Clinton for president is open-and-shut. Of course, against all these considerations you might prefer the newly fashionable and more media-weighty notion that if you don't show her enough appreciation, and after all she's done for us, she may cry.

I take issue with Hitch on a lot of things, but not this. He's absolutely spot on, and in elegant and eloquent language.

I’m not at all shocked at this piece. Self respecting Brits don’t want to be unduly influenced by deranged empire-seekers any more than we do.

For Sen. Clinton, something is true if it validates the myth of her . . . and only ceases to be true when it no longer serves that limitless purpose.

The Hildebeast exemplifies that Truth to the Left is that which advances their goals.

Factuality is irrelevant.

God save us.

Essayist Hitchens writes about one of Hillary's operatives (saying in response to Hillary's horrific lie about being Sir Edmond Hillary's namesake)...

..."It was a sweet family story her mother shared to inspire greatness in her daughter, to great results I might add."

So, Hillary, when caught in a provable, gratuitous and patronizing WHOPPER, does what Clintons do.

She avoids the question, and has her operative LIE AGAIN!

It's the Clinton way.

And, since the "news" media will never, ever call them on their lies (or their power lust, or their police state tactics, or their greedy and avaricious methods of "fund raising"), they will continue to tell lies like it's their lifes' calling.

Pity, as all the compulsive liars I've ever known were compulsively unhappy.

How else to people end up voting for a pervert and an ambitious....power hungry lady??

Because the MSM never fails to cover for them.

Nobody else would get away with the compulsive lying documented in the article. But, when the Clintons do it, it's dismissed as a "smart political move" -- not prevarication.

Every word bang on the money, yet no one on the Dem side seems to care.

Sort of like how Ted Kennedy managed to make Chappaquiddick just fade into nothingness.

However they do it, it’s amazing. Despicable, but amazing.

Oh, the obvious answer is probably the right one. It’s the MSM and their ironclad belief that any Dem is better than any Republican.
