I’m guessing you are being sarcastic? If not, consider that the surprising thing about this statistic is that 15% of those arrested were not truck drivers. Afterall, who primarily frequents truck stops, if not truck drivers?
As a former independent truck driver for over 8 years and a part time truck driver for another 7 years after that, I can tell you that indeed there is a large amount of crime at truck stops. Primarily, drugs, prostitution, and selling of stolen merchandise, about in that order.
My own analysis as to why this is begins with a list of the jobs that pay a livable wage that can be done by a low socially skilled person with criminal tendancies and such that he seldom has to interact with other people. Driving a truck heads the list.

I have to agree with you. Kids on our street play without an adult outside. Young teens walk to the store or the park and go to movies without an adult. Heck, I even go to the mall and walk around my neighborhood unarmed.
I think that, more than anything else, America has been destroyed "For the Children". It's certainly the reason why we're in the societal situation we're in now.
Mine texts us when ever she is on the move from friends, work or school. The penalty for NOT doing so is something she doesn’t want.
My mother has been driving for more than 20 years and she tells me that any child seen wandering in a truck stop at night will set drivers talking to find out who the kid belongs to and cops will be called if there is no parent present.
I don’t doubt that some child prostitution does happen but the number being reported is pretty extreme. Maybe the writer should look into child sex slavery in the cities.
I’m impressed with any woman who can handle 18 wheels. And 20 years, no less!

I have been a computer repair tech for almost 10 years now, and I can’t remember how many times, I have caught 10 to 12 year old girls with hard core porn on their pc’s. If they are into to porn, They are readily at risk of sex slavery.
(Yes I tell parents about it, and its disturbing how many don’t care.)

There was a pretty large truck stop in my hometown. I went back there for breakfast a few years ago (great breakfasts!) and I got hustled by a girl I went to High School with.

Yes, I didn’t think it needed a sarcasm tag. I stole the made up statistic from the article’s made up statistic (85% of offenders self-reporting that they “started” with porn, indeed! I’m sure that 85% also self-reported that they have since “found Jesus” and would like to be let out now).

I suspect it is easy to convince a 13 year-old that she is totally dependent on you. The 100k number seems about right to me. We had male prostitutes at my high school when I was there. They hung out at the truck stops and turned tricks.
