I agree, the 100,000 number seems totally made up and a gross exagerration. Also, I don't think anybody looks at 12 or 14 year old "prostitutes" and thinks of them as "whores" rather than victims. There's a ton of nonsense in this article, as serious as the problem is.

I also liked this line: "Pimps often move their human cargo across the country, making it difficult for girls to contact their families."

Maybe someday, somebody will invent something that allows people to communicate instantaneously across large distances.

I suspect it is easy to convince a 13 year-old that she is totally dependent on you. The 100k number seems about right to me. We had male prostitutes at my high school when I was there. They hung out at the truck stops and turned tricks.
