The New Hampshire primary may not have confirmed who's going to win the GOP nomination (or the Democratic nomination, for that matter). But it just may have told us where voting Republicans stand on the economy and supply-side policy.
Exit polls in New Hampshire reveal that the most important issue for Republican voters is the economy, at 31%, trailed by the war in Iraq at 24%, illegal immigration at 23% and terrorism at 18%.
Overall, 54% of New Hampshire voters said that reducing the budget deficit is the highest priority for the next president, while 44% believe in cutting taxes. And it's from here that an interesting split develops between Sen. John McCain and Gov. Mitt Romney.
While McCain leads Romney 41% to 21% on the economy, McCain is the voters' deficit-cutter of choice, while Romney is the voters' tax-cutter of choice. Of the deficit-cutters, McCain boasted a 20% lead over Romney, 46% to 26%. Of the tax-cutters, Romney led McCain by 10 points, 37% to 27%.
McCain, of course, voted against the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, while Romney didn't support them as governor of Massachusetts. Noteworthy, however, is the fact that McCain favored the Reagan tax cuts in the 1980s, while Romney indicated a lack of support for the Reagan program during his unsuccessful 1994 Senate run against Ted Kennedy.

Interesting the socialist media is trying to bury illegal immigration as the most important issue with these polls.
McKennedy wants to supply our side of the border with illegals.
Uh, you left out President Bush. I believe it was the Bush-McCain-Kennedy connection.
Btw, we don’t need a election to enforce our current laws.
Do you have to pass an anti intelligence test before your answers are counted in one of these polls?
Now, if we could just get them all to understand that there are fully ten amendments in the Bill of Rights.
Larry is a bit optimistic again. W invented the ineffective demand side tax cut, and I doubt that anybody but Fred would be a supply sider, and I have my doubts about him with Lawrence Lindsey as his economic adviser.
IBD is hardly the “socialist” media.
“Lawrence Lindsey as his economic adviser.”
Lawrence Lindsey is a good man. He wrote a book called “The Growth Experiment” about the Reagan tax cuts and the actual financial result of them, that turned me into a convinced supply-sider. The Reagan tax cuts worked, not only to boost the economy but also to fight inflation, and they didnt cost any revenue in the long-term.
Weren’t they referring to New Hampshire? I really don’t think too many people in NH consider immigration their top priority.
That's good. I wish everybody were a supply sider. I don't know what happened to Lindsey, but his work with W wasn't as a supply sider. Other comments I've read about him are that he went over to the dark side some time ago.
The Reagan tax cuts worked, not only to boost the economy but also to fight inflation, and they didnt cost any revenue in the long-term.
I couldn't agree more. Now if we can convince the Federal Reserve that economic growth doesn't cause inflation.
