I watch Project Runway. One of the contestants had to leave early this time because he had MRSA inside his mouth. He was gay and HIV+, and I remember wondering about it, if it was from the HIV or not.
In light of this article, I think I’ve learned a little more than I’m comfortable with.
I research MRSA.
Any skin contact can spread it. Athletes are also more at risk than the general poulation. The only reason that gays would be more at risk is their high promiscuity of skin-skin contact through sex. Lesbians are probably less likely to carry it.
Any profession or behavior that involves lots of skin contact, sexual or nonsexual, increases the risk.
Unfortunately, this is an instance where the choices made by others may kill you.
Good personal choices will mostly protect a person from HIV. They are largely irrelevant once MRSA becomes widespread.
Not quite. The point of the article is that the sexual practices of some cause this bacteria to flourish and then spread through casual contact throughout a community.
It’s not like HIV. This staph can be caught on the proverbial doorknob, for real.
When this staph shows up at a school, for example, they close the facility down and hose down the whole thing, including wiping down school buses, etc.
You, friend, are sadly uninformed.
Unlike HIV, this is not an infection that is passed ONLY during sex. It is passed through casual contact, so anyone, including those who are far, far away from the homosexual community, can catch it.
The point of the article is that this superbug is being picked up by these guys, for example, while in the hospital, then they go out and give it to many, many more people through multiple sex partners.
This increases (1) the total amount of bacteria floating around the community, and (2) the number of people who can place the bacteria in public settings (transportation, restaurants, movie theaters, anywhere people go).
Because there is more bacteria, and it is moved into more places, more people who have nothing to do with the original population can pick it up and get very ill.
Google MSRA and read the stories of school shut downs and so on. The threat to the general population is because the bacteria is spread by casual, not sexual contact.
Could make one believe in reprobate behavior; calling evil good; and plagues, too.
Several school children have actually died from getting this bacteria, presumably at school.
I have often wondered if AIDS and HIV disease were God's way of "speaking" to us.
Now I wonder about MSRA as well.
>>>>This sets up the intruder through the dynamics of genetic change to manifest itself in a form that is resistant to the hosts immune system. This new form is more virulent
Thanks for that helpful explanation. It’s what I was getting at in #53 above, but knowing nothing about biology it was difficult to articulate.
I hate to put it this way, but your explanation makes it perfectly obvious that the “gay community” is the ideal petri dish for the evolution of new and very deadly diseases. Basically, a closed community that is constantly recycling the toxins and waste products that the human body is designed to excrete and eliminate.
It's the sign of the Beast: Sick,Sick,Sick.
“Drug-resistant staph found to be passed in gay sex.”
Is that code for anoreceptive intercourse? buggery? fudge-packing? Butt-pirating?
Don’t seem right, does it?
I'm bookmarking the article to show to the next liberal who tells me we need more sex education.
No cheers, unfortunately--I wish they'd quit: I would not wish AIDS on even my worst enemy.
Oooooooooo! Well played!
Through a business acquaintance, I'm aware of a lesbian couple in the SF area, both with MRSA and both in very serious condition.
There’s TOO MUCH information on this thread~!
Eeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww!
