Mr. Shamnesty-Short Fuse almost walked off the stage during a campaign event with the AFL-CIO in Michigan. Audience members didnt like his soft-on-illegal immigration blather. They booed. He pouted:
Sen. John McCain threatened Tuesday to cut short a speech to union leaders who booed his immigration views and later challenged his statements on organized labor and the Iraq war.
If you like, I will leave, McCain told the AFL-CIOs Building and Construction Trades Department, pivoting briefly from the lectern. He returned to the microphone after the crowd quieted.
OK, then please give me the courtesy I would give you. And what would the profanity-spewing McCain know about courtesy towards those with whom he disagress on immigration?
More:
the senator outlined his position on the Senate immigration debate, saying tougher border enforcement must be accompanied by guest-worker provisions that give illegal immigrants a legal path toward citizenship.
Murmurs from the crowd turned to booing. Pay a decent wage! one audience member shouted.
Ive heard that statement before, McCain said before threatening to leave.
Afterward, the senator said he offered to cut his speech short because I wanted to be heard. Cutting off debate with anti-amnesty opponents: Its the McCain/open borders way.
Say it louder: BOOOOOO!

McCain was also booed at a conservative gathering in Livonia, Michigan, over the weekend, according to CNS News:
Sen. John McCain of Arizona, winner of last Tuesdays New Hampshire primary, drew cheers and jeers from an audience of over 500 conservative activists in Michigan over the weekend.
Just days ahead of the Michigan primary, McCain was one of three Republican presidential hopefuls, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, to visit the Americans for Prosperity Summit held Saturday in the Detroit suburb of Livonia.
McCain was alternately cheered and jeered by the vocal, pro-growth, limit-the-government activist crowd. He was cheered for his military service and for his pledges to maintain a strong defense, to cut taxes and to veto earmarks, but he was booed for his stances on immigration and the environment
McCain, who engaged the audience in a lengthy Q&A period, drew howls of protest and boos when he expressed support for allowing most illegal aliens to stay in the United States and when he opposed against any form of protectionism.
The Arizona Republican even promised one vocal detractor in the audience, John A. Hillman of Livonia, Mich., he would personally phone him and answer his questions as soon as he got back on his campaign bus.
McCain has the same sense of arrogance and entitlement we’ve grown used to seeing from Hillary Clinton.
How dare anyone question him! And don’t call it Amnesty, or I’ll walk out in a huff!
Enjoy the next couple of weeks Johnny, cause thats all you got left.
“during a campaign event with the AFL-CIO”
Is McCain foolish enough to imagine that the labor unions will support him? I wonder if he’s interested in buying the Ambassador Bridge from me.
And yet this asshat is ahead in the polls!
ah, Michelle my dear, such a way with words, *smiles*
Ah yes!...will the real John McLame please stand up?
McAmnesty CAFE standards should get zero votes in Michigan.
It’s like chickens voting for Col. Sanders.
the liberal media driven polls?
Boo him again!
The labor unions don’t like illegal amnesty any more than we do, although for different reasons.
On the one hand, in our politically correct, multi culti society, it’s very difficult to speak out against a designated minority group, even if they are criminals. On the other hand, a large majority of Americans is leary of flooding the country with cheap illegal labor, and that certainly includes the unions.
There’s a coalition of new leftists like Nancy Pelosi and Chamber of Commerce types like Jorge Bush who support illegals. But their numbers are really very small. They just happen to control some important levers of power.
That’s why Teddy Kennedy needed McCain and Bush—not only to help put it over, but to blame it on. It would have been the Bush/McCain immigration bill when it came time to explain it to the unions.
BOO!....that makes three times!
It’s about time the unions realize that illegals are taking their jobs, as well.
The unions are made up of individuals. When I was an AFL-CIO
member I didn’t vote democrat. There are quite a few FReepers who are union members too.
Wait until he is stamping his little foot at our allies and telling them to have intimate relations with themselves.
That’s the commercial I would have been running today, a simple one: Picture of an idle factory. Picture of dejected workers. Blurb about “raising CAFE Standards” with overlay of “McCain: Yes”. Picture Of John McCain with the global warming sign. Back to picture of empty factory.
Michigan isn’t a right-to-work state and that hampers us. A LOT. I’ve already heard one political radio ad (with blithering idiot Bill Bonds) calling for people NOT to sign any right-to-work petitions.
Union workers are pretty fed up with politicans of both stripes. While I don’t know the numbers regarding jobs illegals may be taking here, I’m sure that the perception has lit a fire under those who’ve been laid-off and are running to the end of their unemployment benefits.
If McCain can’t take the heat from the AFL-CIO kitchen he’s got no business being there. He doesn’t have any business being president, either.
Look how stupid republicans are. If McCain would just say he learned his lesson from the overwhelming public reaction, and will truly clamp down on illegal immigration, he would tap into tons of support.
Labor and minorities are the mistreated stepchildren of the democrat party. The democrats shaft them on a regular basis, but the republicans refuse to figure out how to pick up those votes.
After listening to him on C-span while at a campaign stop, I got the distinct impression he wasn’t a great big hit with the people. His answers seemed off the mark and he seemed sluggish, not connecting. IMHO.
I like, I like!
