The labor unions don’t like illegal amnesty any more than we do, although for different reasons.

On the one hand, in our politically correct, multi culti society, it’s very difficult to speak out against a designated minority group, even if they are criminals. On the other hand, a large majority of Americans is leary of flooding the country with cheap illegal labor, and that certainly includes the unions.

There’s a coalition of new leftists like Nancy Pelosi and Chamber of Commerce types like Jorge Bush who support illegals. But their numbers are really very small. They just happen to control some important levers of power.

That’s why Teddy Kennedy needed McCain and Bush—not only to help put it over, but to blame it on. It would have been the Bush/McCain immigration bill when it came time to explain it to the unions.

It’s about time the unions realize that illegals are taking their jobs, as well.

The unions are made up of individuals. When I was an AFL-CIO
member I didn’t vote democrat. There are quite a few FReepers who are union members too.

Michigan isn’t a right-to-work state and that hampers us. A LOT. I’ve already heard one political radio ad (with blithering idiot Bill Bonds) calling for people NOT to sign any right-to-work petitions.

Union workers are pretty fed up with politicans of both stripes. While I don’t know the numbers regarding jobs illegals may be taking here, I’m sure that the perception has lit a fire under those who’ve been laid-off and are running to the end of their unemployment benefits.

If McCain can’t take the heat from the AFL-CIO kitchen he’s got no business being there. He doesn’t have any business being president, either.
