Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign has announced that Martin Feldstein, former chief economic adviser to President Ronald Reagan, has endorsed John McCain for president.
"I am proud to lend my support to John McCain for president," said Martin Feldstein. "John McCain is the candidate with the experience and leadership to keep America secure, with a proven track record as a fiscal conservative who can bring spending in Washington under control, and who can be trusted to build a stronger economy and brighter future for the next generation."
McCain thanked Feldstein for his support, stating, "Martin Feldstein was a trusted advisor to Ronald Reagan and helped craft his pro-growth agenda that ushered in a new era of American prosperity and helped win the Cold War. I am grateful for his support and insight."
Feldstein is the George F. Baker Professor of Economics at Harvard University and President and CEO of the National Bureau of Economic Research. From 1982 through 1984, Feldstein was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and President Reagan's chief economic adviser. In 2006, President Bush appointed him to be a member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.
Would someone please reassure me that McCain will never be our president? Please!

Why don't you shut your political pie hole?
Stifling the www? Online Freedom of Speech Act (H.R. 1606)
"1606 is needed because federal courts have ordered the Federal Election Commission to regulate "electioneering communications" on the Internet because of the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act (McCain-Feingold). If H.R. 1606 fails to become law, your Web site or blog could be shut down for the 30 days prior to a primary election and the 60 days prior to a general election should you express "electioneering communications."
And???
I find it really amazing. Every time anyone, including members of Reagan's inner circle, endorses anyone other than Fred, he is labeled a "RINO." Someone suggested that Reagan himself would be called a "RINO" on FR in 2008. The term "RINO" is being used with about as much sophistication and liberals use the label "racist."
Not sure about your reply but if you mean I fear a McCain presidency because of this inconsequential endorsement that is not the problem. My problem is that the media keeps touting McCain as the front-runner and most likely to be elected (well, depending on what day it is) and you and I both know there are stupid people willing to vote only for whom they think can win. Please, it can’t be McCain. Having said that there are others that make me cringe at the thought that they could ascend to the most powerful office in the land.
I never said that. There is still Duncan Hunter who is not a RINO; although his electability is nil, IMHO.
A surprisingly slow news day. ;-`
If I recall, Feldstein, like David Stockman, turned on Reagan during his presidency.
Sorry for being so unclear. My implication is “who cares who endorses McCain?”.
At this juncture, with the internet and talk radio, we really no longer need unctuous gas bags to tell us how to vote. People who can read, can now look at evidence without having some editorial board filter out the information first and can learn first hand that McCain is no conservative. We really no longer need some dinosaur pundit to tell us how to vote.
I think the title of this is supposed to turn you on.
McCain is a dirtbag Pubbie, like so many others.
Please keep in mind that the GOP elite, Dem elite, just pass the football around and they all head toward the same goal post.
Now why would we think we have any actual say in this?
And while people like us keep up with the backgrounds and issues of our candidates, on both sides I might add, there are a bunch of nincompoopsout there that are nothing but lemmings. And the beat goes on...
Excellent post. Thank you.
Marty Feldstein is a CFR, Trilateral Commission member. Also Group of Thirty and Econometric Society. And a Bilderberger.
Not exactly the kind of people Ronnie liked to run with .... more like the kind of people that Poppy Bush and James Baker brought into the Administration, on the strength of credentials, not belief.
George W. Bush also appointed Feldstein to a couple of posts.
Dr. Feldstein's most useful political contribution has been the proposal to depoliticize Social Security by privatizing it, one of the most significant ideas of the last 30 years. But I think he floated that one on 43's watch, not Ronald Reagan's.
Feldstein had a reputation as a budget-deficit hawk. It’s possible that at times his ideas were more in tune with Bob Dole’s than with Ronald Reagan’s.
Reagan wanted NOTHING to do with CFR.....McCain's getting pretty desperate, imho....dredging up false "Reagan" people.
That definitely qualifies him as a RINO.
Please illuminate me on how he’s a RINO. Based on what little IO know, his main issue was the budget deficit, which is a hard conservative issues (or should be) and has been a leading member of the Reagen and Bush administrations. Did I miss something?
