This is a great post! Iraq is going to be the lefts undoing. How can you run on bringing the troops home when the war is nearly won. I can not wait till we can celebrate the true victory of Iraq with the knowledge that we protected the honor and integrity of our nation by not allowing the left to place our nations tail between its legs and lead a hasty retreat. Never again shall they succeed like they did in Vietnam.

I am not as optimistic. The MSM, given its agenda, has no incentive to give Bush or the GOP credit for victory. They will turn to something else. The sometimes-fickle electorate will be led in that direction, and they will base their voting decisions on a different issue, like the economy. With the GOP’s generic ballot polling numbers in the toilet, and with the economy less sure than it was even four months ago, the unthinkable could happen...

Exactly. Your crystal ball tells you what we should all know by now. Can't you just hear it? Iraq? Well if it weren't for the Democrats forcing Bush to change direction, Bush and the GOP would have lost the war. It's a good thing people like Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama stood up for the troops. Gag a maggot. And what does the GOP talk about? If we nominate McCain we say, yeah McCain said to change direction in Iraq too and we trash Rumsfield? What else can we say about McCain? If we nominate Huckabee we have to talk about Constitutional Amendments that don't have a chance of passing to make abortion illegal and hear about putting children in jail. Lot's of luck with those issues, GOP. With either McCain or Huckabee we can't talk about illegal immigration or tax cuts to stimulate the economy with any kind of believability. So because we can't unite behind either one of the two who Rush said were the true Conservatives, we hand the Democrats 2 probably 3 Supreme Court appointments? It's easy to see where this election is going.

This is going to help our side in the general election.

It will only if our side pushes the issue. Headlines are already declaring that Iraq is "off the table" now, as an issue, as if wishing it away will work.

Instead of arguing the past, perhaps we should shift the conversation toward the possible future this positive outcome in Iraq could engender. Maybe it's time to talk about how a democratic, stable Iraq will work to the benefit of the US in the future. It could conceivably validate the domino theory in ways we never dreamed of. The other despots in the region will begin to have a great deal of trouble with their hold on power, as their populace begins to see that a better way is possible for them.

Also, as Iraqi oil shipments begin to ramp up, extreme pressure will be put on OPEC, and will have no small effect on world oil prices, IMHO. Our presence in Iraq gives us leverage against other agitators in the region, and may clear the way for an Israeli-Palestinian accommodation that could result in peace between them. Iran is severely weakened by an American victory in Iraq, and the Arab Street will soon have to take note. Here's betting a huge statue of George W. Bush will one day be erected in Baghdad.

I bet the mass media will rediscover Iraq this month when we get our 24th casualty in Iraq this month (we’re at 18 now.) We had 23 casualties in December, which was the lowest since early in the war. Of course, the mass media mostly ignored that success.

Because we took the offensive against some Al-Qaeda holdouts north of Baghdad, we have had a slight uptick in casualties this month. The mass media will be sure to trumpet “casualties going up again! It’s a quagmire!”

I realize George W. Bush is a father figure to most of the mainstream media, and most of the mainstream media hate their fathers. But still, is that any reason to spend the last five years writing propaganda pieces for the enemy? Can’t they just go see a shrink about their psychological issues?
