A state mobility agency wants local input concerning a major corridor that might slice through East Texas.
A town hall meeting will be held in Carthage on Wednesday to discuss the Interstate 69/Trans-Texas Corridor study area, according to a Texas Department of Transportation media release.
The meeting, slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame located at 300 West Panola Street, will be the first of 11 such discussions held statewide.
Interstate 69 consists of two parts — a completed portion from the Canadian border to Indianapolis, and a mostly proposed extension to the Mexican border through Arkansas, East Texas and possibly northwest Louisiana.TxDOT, which is holding the town hall meetings, says the corridor might traverse Panola, Harrison, Rusk, Marion and Cass counties.
The meetings will allow residents to ask questions and get answers about transportation issues, according to Marcus Sandifer, spokesman for the TxDOT Atlanta District. The Texas Transportation Commission is also looking for interested residents to form new advisory committees for both the I-69 and I-35 corridors, the release states.
Each committee will look at the broad overview of the corridors and its overall project development, Sandifer said.
Applications to serve on the committees are available online at www.txdot.gov and are due by Feb. 8.
Trans-Texas Corridor PING!
Interstae 69???? The transportaion department must have to replace signs there on a regular basis.
Bill probably has one nailed to his garage wall.
Gees, it’s going through Arkansas. Explains everything about the numbering system.
Seems to me that is a mess up in the numbering system for interstate highways anyway... shouldn’t an interstate 69 be east of the current interstate 65? (- which is definitely well east of any parts of Texas.)
I-69? I sixty nine? Really? Is this the best they could do?
Can you ride the Salt Lake Urban Transit (SLUT) there?
... shouldnt an interstate 69 be east of the current interstate 65?
It is from Indianapolis to Detroit.
NO TOLLS!
NO FOREIGN INVOLVEMENT! (except for normal Bonds purchasing)
MUST pass through Customs and DHS checks BEFORE entry/exit is allowed!
NO TAKING of PRIVATE PROPERTY!
It’s the ONLY way to connect the dots, don’t cha’ know? /s
Really. We can't be letting those US investors invest their money anywhere but the US.
"MUST pass through Customs"
Haven't you heard? As part of the NAU, they will be creating a Customs Union/common tariffs. It appears that after US FedGov spends all that money trying to catch drugs, illegals, and terror bombs crossing the border, there is no money left to try to catch the customs violators.
BTTT
Unfortunately, no highway would ever get built if that were the case. I think I would like an eminent domain taking of my property about as much as I would a massive head wound, but in the case of highways, it is necessary.
Cone on, now, post the entire thought...
“NO FOREIGN INVOLVEMENT! (except for normal Bonds purchasing)”
Investment, yes, involvement, no.
Comprende, Señor?
That all depends on what the word “involvement” means.
One of the big fears about Hillary being prez is the extent she might use ED. We’ve got to be really careful to draw a line in the sand on it’s use.
Personally, I believe there has been enough land taken for highway use. Widen the ROW of existing roadways and quit trying to take valuble farm and ranch land. (no, I don’t care if it cost more money or displaces a Big Box store or 2.)
Viva Viagra!
No, but you can ride Forney Area Rapid Transit........
“Viva Viagra!”
Hillary has the opposite effect of Viagra.
The federal Highway Trust Fund is going broke. Oberstar and DeFazio tried to raise the federal gas 5 cents but failed.
I’m talking about property confiscation in general not, just land for roads. (Socialism)
