Huckabee Defends Joke About Fred
cbsnews ^ | 01/12/08 | Joy Lin

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Asked about Fred Thompson’s “hatchet” attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought “Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.”

On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, “You have to understand the context of the show….It’s not quite as irreverent as Imus…not quite Stephen Colbert but it’s serious topics with an edge.”

“I really do believe if people can’t have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all they’re going to do is give this robotic answer to everything that’s very carefully scripted. I promise you, you won’t have moments like this,” Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.

“Does Romney do these?” Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.

“If I thought I couldn’t be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and can’t say and I have to read it, you know, it’s not worth it.”

Huckapuke dodges "embarrassing" (i.e. revealing) questions by executing a verbal Chaînés -- slipping into one of his polished RAT-like populist spews about how it's "for the children" or "making government work for the people", etc.

He's nothing more than a pro-life RAT.

It seems a lot of Fredheads have a distaste of Christians ever since Focus on the Family leader had the audicity to mention that Fred didn't darken the door of a church, and hadn't in a long time.

What Big Jim Dobson did was declare from a distance that Fred's not a Christian.

Not only is that audacity, it's asinine and very un-Christian.

As for Fredheads having a distaste or Christians, are you kidding?

The vast vast majority of Fred's supporters and voters ARE Christian, like Fred himself.

You and your fellow Huckabee Fans are backing a man who will bring socialism to us all.

The “Christian” Democrats in Europe came in the same disguise and fooled the same types of people, people like you, with the talk of God, Jesus and Social Justice through government action.

None of this is Godly, Christian or American.

If you succeed I hope you can afford taxes on the same scale as our European friends, with the same immigration, economic and social issues. I hope that inflation and interest rates that would make Carter blush are part of your current finical planning. I hope you realize your loving accomplices in the Democratic party are chomping at the bit for you to put this guy up for nomination, it will be a win win for them.

My plan is to fight this threat tooth and nail. I would take Rudy over him, hell I would take Obama or Hillary, for it is much easier to fight an enemy dressed as an enemy than one that dresses as and professes to be my "friend".

I have taken the time to learn about Mike Huckabee, for I wanted to know if I was wrong about him. Little did I realize until late yesterday as I finished up that I was studying my enemy.

He might have been the bees knees around here at one point, but like I said, the worst enemy to fight is the one that looks just like you.

Good luck with that and God bless you!

“Things are shaping up for it to be a McCain/Huckabee ticket in November.”

It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if John McCain did something that stupid. To tell you the truth, I’m not that enthusiastic about voting for Ted Kennedy’s legislative buddy either. It may turn out to be a 4 person race in November, with Ron Paul being the only “conservative” on the ballot!

This is an interesting column:

And I agree, as a Christian voter I have never felt “dissed” by Thompson.

Rush Limbaugh said it yesterday— you can’t talk people out of an emotional attachment. People who support Huckabee identify with him. Logic and facts are not significant to people like that. He’s a “Christian” like me so he must be the best candidate, etc.
Did you know that Huckabee was a PR man for a televangelist? (I forget which one.) Ugh!
********************************
Yes, I knew that he was a PR man for a televangelist.

That may have been the televangelist he dropped out of seminary to work for instead of staying the course to get his theology degree.

Oh, that’s right, Huckabee said several times that he HAS a theology degree - in fact, he said he is the only one of all the candidates to have a theology degree. He said the fact that he has a theology degree makes him an EXPERT — and expert, I tell you, on foreign affairs and policies.

Wait, no, his campaign reported to the news that he doesn’t have a theology degree - he only went to seminary for a year and dropped out.

Oh my — I am so confused!!

What IS the truth about Huckabee?!

I am a Christian voter and have never felt dissed by Fred. I have however been offended by the way Huck is campaigning...touting his Christian creds but acting in a way far more aligned with the corrupt Clintons from Arkansas. When you obfuscate records, to me thats thats outright lying.

Not only did I see it, I still see it. Do you not see the pictures making fun of Christians right here before your eyes. Make fun of Huck's awful voting record, it is fact he has a horrible liberal streak in him. But making fun of Huck because he is Christian doesn't cut it with me. My post was just pointing out the obvious, if you don't make nice with Christians (especially the popcorn voters) don't expect to get far in an election. Popcorn Christians aren't bad folks, but are easily deceived it seems. Popcorn Christian voters are as likely to vote for a RINO as a Reagan, but one thing they do take to heart is when they are being spit upon.

I just don't think the anti-Christian vile will sway Christian popcorn voters for a candidate, and that Fredheads would be wise to drop that losing game plan. Whether they like it or not, without a big Christian voter output on election day, a candidate is sunk.

In a nutshell... Fred Thompson folks don't have winning game plan if they focus on sarcastically dealing with Christian voters, they need to focus on the issues that also have bearing on what voters vote for.. unfortunately for them, Huck (as far as I know) has a strong pro-life stance, Fred can't touch that, and in reality Fred's stance on abortion is one of his weaker positions. Huck knows he can't defend his voting record, but He can defend himself being a Christian, Fred (and his FR supporters) would be wise not to make that the issue.

Fred simply tells the truth about the Huckster, and it’s an attack. The Huckster is a democrat in the mold of that other ‘rat from Hope-none other than our “first black president”, Bill “Slick Willie” Clinton.

There must be something in the water in Hope, AR.

That’s just catty.

On the good side, at least he didn't break into tears like Hillary.

can you be specific? I have never seen Fred make fun of Christians. I have seen him knocking Huck for his claims.
Maybe you are seeing something because you want to.
Huck is a disingenuous man. Keep on believing and we will be in a Huck of trouble.

Ask someone about their record and it’s a “hatchet job”?

The press is so transparent. Set up poor little RINO Huck so the RAT will win the general election.

“HUCKABEE
The Republican Bill Clinton.”
You know, I initially liked the guy since he is a preacher, but I now have the same distrustful feeling about Huck as I did (and have) about Clinton, all the late night talk show wisecracks, etc., maybe it is the Arkansas connection?
