MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Asked about Fred Thompsons hatchet attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.
On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, You have to understand the context of the show .Its not quite as irreverent as Imus not quite Stephen Colbert but its serious topics with an edge.
I really do believe if people cant have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all theyre going to do is give this robotic answer to everything thats very carefully scripted. I promise you, you wont have moments like this, Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.
Does Romney do these? Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.
If I thought I couldnt be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and cant say and I have to read it, you know, its not worth it.
Huckabee can kiss the Metamucil-using voting block goodbye.
The Huckster did not refute one thing Thompson said because he couldn’t. Ad hominem attacks are the last refuge of a decimated position.
“Does Romney do these? Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.”
He has a point.
I think he showed his true nature. A “Metamucil” jab is something one might say to a friend in person in a jocular way, but he said it to the press. That’s just catty.
Huck is a nasty/nice. Someone who says really unkind things but says them with a smile and so expects others to let them pass. McCain is just a nasty. I don’t want either of them for President.
No, and there’s a reason. In the days of youtube, one slip and you’re “Macaca”.
“The Huckster did not refute one thing Thompson said because he couldnt. Ad hominem attacks are the last refuge of a decimated position.
“
Exactly right, but based on this forum and the GOP press in gheneral which fears small government, the only candidate and their supporters allowed to be attacked by ad hominem is Dr. Paul.
Huckabee is an embarrassment to his adherents and himself. He’d be filleted by any nominee the Democrats put forth.
I think it was also a huge swipe at Fred’s age.
LOL! True insight into the human.
In a Huckabee administration, Metamucil would be available free of charge as part of Huckabee’s contemplated “Everyone Gets Free Stuff Except Evil Rich People” plan.
This was the last straw...and really shows Huckabee is more at home with the Democrats. Huckabee may be younger than the others—but he was born in 1955...he shouldn’t be acting like he was born in 1995. I guess he picked Metamucil in particular to foster the notion that Thompson is too old (although he’s a spring chicken compared to McCain or Ron Paul).
GO HUCK. I’v never seen a bigger bunch of babies than some of the fredheads around here. Fred goes in with the hatchet and Huckabee laughs it off and says “take some metamucil fred”. Get a life guys.
Does FT really care?
WHY WHY WHY are people falling for the Huckster? Is it really JUST because he’s an SBC minister? Is it the fact that he does, admittedly, talk a good game if you ignore his gaffes? What is it?
If Huckster is the nominee, it will be the first time since 1980 that I have not voted.
What gets me is he didn’t address anything Fred said. Because he couldn’t refute it, Fred was right...
Huckabee is a goober head.
