John Kerry: McCain Approached Me About Joining Dem Ticket in 2004
MyDD ^ | April 3, 2007 | Jonathan Singer

Posted on 01/11/2008 9:29:47 PM PST by khnyny

On Monday afternoon I had the chance to speak with Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic Party's nominee for President in 2004. During the interview, which covers a range of topics and which I will be posting later this afternoon, an item of particular interest jumped out at me: According to Sen. Kerry, it was John McCain's staff who approached his campaign about potentially filling the Vice President slot on the Democratic ticket in 2004. Take a listen to and a look at the interchange...

Jonathan Singer: There's a story in The Hill, I think on Tuesday, by Bob Cusack on the front page of the paper talking about how John McCain's people -- John Weaver -- had approached Tom Daschle and a New York Congressman, I don't remember his name, about switching parties. And I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about what your discussions were with him in 2004, how far it went, who approached whom... if there was any "there" there.

John Kerry: I don't know all the details of it. I know that Tom, from a conversation with him, was in conversation with a number of Republicans back then. It doesn't surprise me completely because his people similarly approached me to engage in a discussion about his potentially being on the ticket as Vice President. So his people were active -- let's put it that way.

Singer: Okay. And just to confirm, you said it, but this is something they approached you rather than...

Kerry: Absolutely correct. John Weaver of his shop... [JK aswers phone]

As you might know from reading my posts in the past, I don't usually addend my own thoughts to my interviews. I like to think they speak for themselves. But...

When I think of Kerry being decorated, I think of Christmas and what they must have put on top. This is probably the only time of the year when he actually has a set of family jewels...

We’re gonna need both Huckabee and Giuliani going strong, in order to stop McCain. If Huckabee doesn’t take Michigan, go Romney, too!

Using Kerry as a source to impugn McCain is rich!

I heard from Bernie Sanders that McCain wanted to start a socialist revolution. (/fairy tale)

No concern for the 8th commandment here, I see.

I bet this story is “seared, seared” into Kerry’s memory.

Didn’t Kerry serve in Vietnam?

Supposedly he carried a weapon and rode a boat. It is also rumored that his double was spotted in Cambodia while he was eating turkey in Vietnam.

It is hard to judge this. Neither Kerry nor McCain is believable or honest.

What is clear and undeniable is that McCain often delights in siding with liberals against conservatives. There should be no thought whatsoever to nominating him for President. (The same goes for Huckabee!)

Didn’t Kerry serve in Vietnam?

Yeah. Nixon sent him there in 1968.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. The GOP only has a chance if it can enunciate conservative principles, which is something that McCain, or Huckabee, cannot possibly do.

Some past articles about this,

Who knows what the truth is, but how can we believe anything Kerry says? Not that McLame is much better.

I don’t know. Benedict Arnold McStain is definitely on the bottom and don’t know how much lower one can go, but I wouldn’t move a muscle to support the cross-dressing abortionist gun grabber Ruby Giuliani, and the pro-choice since his mother told him to be so, gays should be able to serve openly in the military, big government $50 abortion social program Mitt Romney doesn’t thrill me much either.

GO, FRed, GO!!

The “old news” is that the Dems were courting McCain. The fact that McCain may have actively sought the Dem VP slot is NEW.

Well McCain lies every day (”I’m not for amnesty.”), so, I don’t know how you decide which liar is telling the truth.

Socialism might at least trigger a fight response. McCain’s creeping socialism would go unopposed until it was too late.
