Mexican education comes to U.S.
Los Angeles Times ^ | January 11, 2008 | By Anna Gorman, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

The Mexican government opened its latest Plaza Comunitaria, or Community Plaza, Thursday at San Fernando Middle School, minutes from Vidal's house. There are 13 such centers throughout Los Angeles County, aimed at helping Mexican nationals complete their basic education. The centers offer free classes, in person or through video and the Internet, to Mexican nationals living in the U.S.

"They are leaving our country without that education," said Mario Velazquez, acting consul general at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles. "We have failed in giving education to those Mexicans. We must try our best to give that education, even if they are abroad."

More than 40% of Mexican nationals over age 25 living in the U.S. had less than a ninth-grade education, according to 2005 data compiled by the Pew Hispanic Center.

It’s a part of their occupation plan.

Why is that? Maybe they weren't that interested in an education?

They’re just setting up their infrastructure here in the U.S.

Nothing to be too worked up over. I know our president shares my view.

I remember some stories from a year or so back about hispanic schools in this country run bt La Raza big wigs. They sounded like madrassas to me. I wonder what kind of history will be taught in these.

Uhm, that’s like saying the fact that 2 of my grandparents didn’t want an education because they didn’t go past the 8th grade was due to lack of interest.

It isnt the educated of Mexico coming to Socal (other than to shop at the malls on the weekend and go back)...it is those who can barely read...that is why the Hispanic radio and television news are so influential. They need to get the peoples to read spanish so they are able to send their remittances back to the homeland.

I work with these people all the time. They either hand me cash or they hand me their checkbook to write checks to myself. Sometimes their preschool kids write the checks. These are all homeowners and business owners, I think the 40 percent is way low.

It’s fine so long as Mexico is paying for it all, but not for illegals. The US government of California or LA should, of course, be screening for illegals.

I think an important subject would be Cartography showing how to trace an overland route to Mexico. This might help remind people the route goes both ways.

The problem of illegal immigration begins with the country they leave not with the United States. If decent schools, jobs, health care and housing were available in Mexico it would do a lot to curb the influx of illegal immigrants. But as long as the US looks like and is better place to take your chances people will come here. If they come here legally great. If not then the immigration laws need to be enforced.

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100.
His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80.
What is his profit?

Teaching Math in 1970:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A logger exchanges a set, “L”, of lumber for a set, “M”, of money.
The cardinality of set “M” is 100. Each element is worth one dollar.
Make 100 dots representing the elements of the set “M.”
The set “C”, the cost of production contains 20 fewer points than set “M”
Represent the set “C” as a subset of set “M” and answer the following question: What is the cardinality of the set “P” of profits?
Teaching Math in 1980:
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100.
His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20.
Your assignment is to - Write and underline the number “20”.
Teaching Math in 1990:
By cutting down beautiful trees and desecrating the precious forest a logger makes $20.
What do you think of this way of making a living?
How did the forest birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down the trees? - There are no wrong answers.
That’s an outlier and no inuendo was made toward them or folks like them.
My point is that this group of folks as a whole, don’t fare well in terms of education, beit here or at home.
If you have evidence contrary to this, please let me know.
Just keep it up, Mexico. Just keeeeep it up.
I wonder what the four empty suit Johnny Come Late-to Immigration RINOS in the GOP presidential race think about this and if they would stop it.
How about compulsory education in the true history of Mexico, why it’s a failed state and how it will continue to be a failed state as long as it is allowed to export its problems here and profit from that export? That would be too much truth, no doubt.
Yes, let’s let Mexico export their drug-sodden, crime-ridden, socialist-distorted failed culture to our lovely country.
Will they teach Gang 101? Car theft 200? How to avoid getting caught drunk driving?
Sheeeeesh! I was reading and writing by 4-1/2 years of age. I’d certainly hope that 40% mentioned in the article with a 9th grade education that turn over their checkbooks to you to write in your fee’s etc. aren’t a mirror of American 9th graders as supposedly those folks are being compared to. (That was an awkward sentence, but I s’pose you know what I mean.)
What I wanted to post though is irrelevant to your comment. I was just remembering about the Presidente of Mexico’s comment that “Wherever there’s a Mexican, it is Mexico”. So I guess in the eyes of the Mexican Presidente the Estados Unidos is Mexico, ‘cause the illegal Mexican National’s are all over the place.
