Bloggers Prefer A Thompson Hunter Ticket
Presto Pundit ^ | Jan. 11, 2008

Posted on 01/11/2008 9:05:46 AM PST by jdm

Right Wing News has done another Rightosphere temperature check on the Republican race for the Presidential nomination. Over half preferred Thompson as the Republican candidate — these folks must have been very happy with last nights debate, where Thompson finally woke up and realized politics ain’t bean bag and you can’t win if you don’t play. RWN’s does some helpful breakouts on relative preferences among the candidates, so do check out the temp check.

The two candidates the bloggers don’t like are McCain and Huckabee. I’d pick it strongly the other way, but bloggers actually prefer McCain over Huckabee. My view is that Huckabee would be a better President down the line, definitely more conservative, and more tolerable to have in the news and on your TV set for 4 years — a big consideration.

I don’t like McCain, I don’t trust McCain and I don’t believe McCain. I don’t believe his heart is in the right spot (John McCain loves John McCain), I don’t trust his judgment, and I don’t like the way he thinks about issues.

And I actually think Huckabee has a good case defending his record as governor of Arkansas — conservatives actually believe in solving problems at the state and local level, and Arkansas historically has had terrible schools and public infrastructure.

Huckabee didn’t do anything for the Republicans in Arkansas, and I don’t like his record on crime, but his record on illegals isn’t nearly the worst in the country. He did leave his state with a large budget surplus, which is much better than most Republican chief executives today.

I’m at the point of thinking we need to give Huckabee a break.

One reason Romney isn’t doing that well is because he’s nit-picking Huckabee’s record, and he’s not taking on his opponents at a principled level — Huckabee is right to respond “What would you do” when faced with court orders and a terrible school system.

UPDATE: This is news — Human Events endorses Fred Thompson. This race might have been a completely different one if Thompson had decided he really wanted to be President a few months ago, instead of only last night.

Patrick Ruffini suggests the Arkansas governor will have to make a similar decision, “[Huckabee] seems to be running for Mr. Congeniality at times. Huckabee’s path to the nomination lies in convincing conservatives why John McCain was so unacceptable to them to begin with. He has to make a decision about whether he’s running for President or Vice President.”

And please tell us just what voters are supporting Hunter in huge numbers in all of these primary states? As for Fred, he may not even win SC a good conservative Pub state. Please, this is a nice fantasy but if Fred is going to get nominated, start selecting the state where he wins. At the end of Feb. 5, the question will be still, who now is electible? If Fred is ahead in delegates by then, boy howdy, I am with you.

I’m not discounting Hunter’s conservative credentials by any means, and yes, something has to be done about the border, - but could he even carry his own state?

A Hunter/Thompson ticket would make people say, “Where have I heard that name before?”

Nothing wrong with exposing anyone*s voting record; I was referring to the overall tone of your posts—that*s what seems unreasonable. What is your fierce objection to DH as VP, if Thompson chose him? DH*s defense of our border? Changing our insane trade policies with China? His record and his personal stand opposing the killing of the unborn? His bravery and experience in war(*Nam)? Years on the Armed Services Committee? Son*s service in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan? >>> Why are you and others, so d#mned sour??

My objection to Hunter as VP is 1) nobody knows he even exists, 2) he can’t deliver any states(CA) 3) he wouldn’t deliver anymore votes in other states than Thompson would on his own!

You guys just need to understand that you dont wake up and be POTUS or VPOTUS.

Duncan Hunter is just a lousy candidate for President or Vice President. That’s all there is too it.

In order of preference.

1st. Fred
2nd. Romney or Rudy (tied)
4th. Huckabee
5th. McCain

CFR Fred, huh?

I mean, as long as we’re picking nits...

And you would actually back the rest over Hunter.

What are you doing on FR? Isn’t there a mushy centrist website that you can join?

If you had tried to push your crap in 1998 or 1999, you would have been blown out of here so fast...

The great conservative my ass! LOL

Fred is a conservative. Is he likely to choose any of those open border, anti-gun, tax-happy, mentally unstable folks? If he did, where would his own beliefs be, and how would us conservatives handle it?

So these several individual bill amendments, (which I don’t agree with either) are enough to knock him back behind that pathetic list of preferred RINOs? Are you on acid?

You’re a phony.

“It will be be George Allen.

IMHO”

Oh, yeah, there’s a winner. A guy who just lost an election. Just what we need, another ‘macaca moment’.

Yep, he lost. Simply because the MSM crucified him.

Better someone who is recognizabe with conservative values than someone who can't get out of the margin of error.

“Do you really think you’re helping Thompson by attacking a conservative?”

Hunter is the only one that poster doesn’t like. Huck, McCain, Fred, Rudy, anyone but Hunter. He/she/it is on a crusade, spamming every thread with insults and twisted logic about Hunter’s votes......MOST of which Fred supports, btw, as did Bush concerning the WOT. Was Onerom99 a Bush hater too?

People like Onerom99 are repulsed by those of us who support a real conservative instead of party first. Not to mention being a recycled disruptor.
