Wherever Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney goes, memories of Oakland County, Bloomfield Hills and Cranbrook Schools go with him. Willard Mitt Romney lived in Bloomfield Hills and attended Cranbrook from 1959-65. His wife, Ann, also is a Cranbrook graduate. Mitt Romney's Cranbrook schoolmates from 40 years ago - such as Gregg Dearth from Connecticut - have even volunteered to help with his campaign. Dearth reminisced about the Cranbrook years from a cab in New York City on Thursday. "We tried like hell to corrupt him," said Dearth, with a chuckle. "I broke a lot of rules. There was a lot of speeding in cars, chasing girls, but Mitt w party to any of that," he said. "But he wasn't a goody twoshoes. He was one of the boys, one of the gang, but he toed the line. He was a very responsible guy. We all looked up to him."
Romney was born in Detroit in 1947 and grew up in Bloomfield Hills. His father, George Romney, was chairman of American Motors Corp. from 1954 to 1962, then served as Michigan's governor from 1963 to 1969.
George Romney himself ran for president in 1968, losing the Republican nomination to Richard Nixon.

Have you got any pictures of Fred hunting?
....but then I went on a two year mission for my Church, while Ann grew up and graduated High School....
Sheesh!
‘Have you got any pictures of Fred hunting?’
Hell with that, lets have pictures of Fred’s wife sunning herself...(chuckle)
Since WHEN is Bloomfield Hills ‘country’?
Was he ever drafted in 1968?
County, not country. This is an Oakland County paper.
Excellent testimony. A guy who remains clean-cut in the era of the anti-hero is bound to rub some the wrong way.
Yeah, but what country? Is there a country of Flipania....or Flipenstein, er sumpthin?
Geez, I’m an idiot. Thank God it’s Friday.
Hitler was a genius, too. Does that mean he’d be a great president???
I have worked in academe now for almost 30 years. I am surrounded daily with people of very high IQs and trust me, you wouldn't want these people to be running things. Intelligence does not always equate to wisdom which is what you really want in a leader.
Wasn't it William Buckley who said he would rather be governed by 5,000 people drawn at random from the Boston white pages than by the faculty at Harvard?
Which wife of Fred Thompson's his first or his second one, that is the age of his now deceased Daughter?
Was FRED Thompson ever drafted in 1968?
‘Which wife of Fred Thompson’s his first or his second one, that is the age of his now deceased Daughter?’
Wow. What I know is this, Romney would be APPALLED by somebody like you.

No kidding. Why can’t we just go for competency for a change? Brilliance is best.
"...but back then she and her family were practicing Episcopalians, 'hardly a religion at all,' in the words of my friend Ann Coulter and certainly a religion in league with the devil so I knew she had to be changed.
Fortunately, my father, the most influential person in my life, knew a thing or two about 'brainwashing' so that was what we did. And she was re-baptised despite all of her life reciting the Nicean and Apostles Creeds about believing in "one baptism"...but, after all, she is a blonde so it wasn't hard to do.
Finally somebody who "gets" it. I was wondering why the heck everyone was talking about hunting. Then, it occurred to me, they think it said Romney has "country" roots. LOL.
