Wherever Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney goes, memories of Oakland County, Bloomfield Hills and Cranbrook Schools go with him. Willard Mitt Romney lived in Bloomfield Hills and attended Cranbrook from 1959-65. His wife, Ann, also is a Cranbrook graduate. Mitt Romney's Cranbrook schoolmates from 40 years ago - such as Gregg Dearth from Connecticut - have even volunteered to help with his campaign. Dearth reminisced about the Cranbrook years from a cab in New York City on Thursday. "We tried like hell to corrupt him," said Dearth, with a chuckle. "I broke a lot of rules. There was a lot of speeding in cars, chasing girls, but Mitt w party to any of that," he said. "But he wasn't a goody twoshoes. He was one of the boys, one of the gang, but he toed the line. He was a very responsible guy. We all looked up to him."
Romney was born in Detroit in 1947 and grew up in Bloomfield Hills. His father, George Romney, was chairman of American Motors Corp. from 1954 to 1962, then served as Michigan's governor from 1963 to 1969.
George Romney himself ran for president in 1968, losing the Republican nomination to Richard Nixon.

I had heard that Romney joined the NRA about a year ago when he decided to run for President.
He seems to shift his positions on abortion, gun rights, and gay marriage like the wind blows - apparently not because he truly believes in them, but purely for political expediency.
For Mitt Romney to be 60 years old still switching positions back and forth on these core issues represents a basic lack of solid moral foundation in his life - and definitely disqualifies him to be Americas President.
Good Lord...anything to get elected
There is one position no one can switch.
IQ.
This guy is almost certainly the most brilliant man ever to run for President. The GOP president in 2009, facing a Democrat Congress with a majority that will also almost certainly be larger than it is today, needs to be brilliant more than he needs to be a chest pounding stalwart.
Hardened positions generate veto overrides. Genius generates diluted legislation that does nothing.
Mitt Romney on Ann:
I asked her to go on my first date on March 21st of 1965 - we went to the Sound of Music that was just coming out. We saw that movie and I don’t know what it was in terms of the magic that love is.
Clearly, she was beautiful then. But there was something else that happened very quickly ... I didn’t want to be anywhere else but with Ann. I wanted to be with her all the time and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else besides being with her. And so, at the senior prom, as we danced a little bit, we went outside of the school and I turned to her and said, “Ann, would you marry me?” And she said, “Yes.”
I’m sure John Edward’s official IQ is higher than George Bush’s.
Which one you want?
I don’t care what someone’s IQ is when they represent the GOP version of John Kerry. He’s not getting my vote.
