Work took me away from watching the debate so all I can gauge how it went on is other bloggers and man o man, does it look like Fred took it or what? The best take on it tonight comes from Jim Geraghty:
Tonight, Fred Reminded Me of Roy Hobbs.
Winner: Thompson. This performance was so commanding, I wanted his last answer to echo back to the lights in the back of the auditorium, blow out all the lamps and spotlights, for the theme to the Natural to play, and for him to trot around the stage in slow motion while sparks showered down in the background.

I’m one of those thats grown impatient with Thompson’s ‘walking for President’.
Last night, two minutes into the debate, my house was cheering him on.
Bout time Fred. Here’s hoping its not to late to make a real difference.
Fred’s the best of the bunch.
Fred finally got a pair last night.
Hey...don't anybody beat me up, but to be honest, I just didn't see Fred as "winning" the debate. I like Fred, but just don't have the confidence that he can come out on top as our nominee; yet alone win in November....(okay...flame away!)
Hmmm. Found his voice anyway. He also did very well on Hannity yesterday afternoon.
All in all, the best day of his Campaign.

Fox post-debate interview with audience.
The rating could use some FReeping.
Well, guess what? Lumptz is on Fox this morning. He just said McCain and Fred won, but he started with McCain, and is acting like Fred won usin’ that old southern charm.
Makes me ill, and he discounts Fred in the end.
Don’t forget the other big news out of the debate. Ron Paul lost, big time.
Not only did Paul lose, he made a fool of himself.
And his supporters....
Thompson was spectacular last night and the clear winner. He had a commanding presence and took control of the stage and smartly challenged Huckabee. Best line of the night came during his attack on Huckabee and his counter Reagan coalition ways, This is the battle of the heart and sole of the Republican Party. Sooooo true.
Romney was just so-so last night and was not much of a presence. He did have one good answer which I loudly applauded but Thompson answered the question next and he clearly had an even better answer.
McCain got a lot of air time, but the only thing new we learned about him was his friends call him Sheriff He mentioned that in at least two answers. LOL
Huckabee had the barf line of the night when he came under attack from Thompson, defending his tax increases, I didnt raise taxes I raised hope. Sounds like an answer that a card carrying Democrat would give. He also had We did it for the children spin on his defense of the Arkansas tax increases, another often used Democrat playbook answer.
You noticed he had his minions out ready to pounce on the Fox polls. I w2ish Fox would find a more scientific way to do that. It’s perfectly obvious that Paulites are just flaming the damn thing.
I watched it and felt so happy about his appearance...he was great! I was also shocked when they went to their little audience and felt Fred was the winner! Was Fred on any morning shows today? I saw Mitt on GMA.
Boy you got that right. I think last night was his Dean Scream moment.
Fred did hit it out of the park last night, eh?
I personally think that people somehow associate crying and anger with desirable traits for a leader. Whereas cool, calm and collected thought and process is somehow not caring and asleep.
I believe in a different era (pre-internet)Fred would be a front runner.
Roy Hobbs. Up-and-comer, women chase after him, he lets those women catch him, she shoots him, he disappears for a while.
Then he comes back like a “knight” in shining armor to save his team. He wants to play but sits on the bench because the coach doesn’t think he can play, and Hobbs refuses to be anything but himself in order to prove that he belongs in the game.
So after a good part of the season is gone, Hobbs is still on the bench, the team is almost hopelessly behind, and Hobbs decides it’s time to scream a little, and the coach checks him out, and he’s a star.
But he’s easily distracted again by other things, and his game falls apart, and then his old wound acts up.
But he’s got just enough left in him for one final at bat, bleeding and obviously in pain, he hits it over the fence, they win the game, and then he goes off into the sunset with the girl, because he’s finally gotten what he wanted and doesn’t need the game anymore.
Go Fred!!
