We begin by recalling the profound words of Ronald Reagan at the Conservative Political Action Conference Feb. 15, 1975: A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency or simply to swell its numbers. We believed that then, and we believe it now. The issue for us -- and for the conservative community -- boils down to which of the candidates is most representative of the fundamental conservative principles we believe in. The answer is Fred Thompson.

He said earlier that he’s a Huckabee supporter. LOL
I fear that whereas we want to see more fire from Thompson fire as attack of Huckerbee may not be the tactics needed or sway undecided voters certainly not in the general election.
Having said that I still feel that this far by his best performance and probably enough to keep him in till super Tuesday after which anything could happen.
Especially when he sounds just like a Democrat. 'Cause he's gonna bring us hope. Gag! What sophomoric tripe.
How am I bashing?
I’ve said I’m a FAN of Fred Thompson.
Excellent analysis!
It isn’t because Ann Coulter who writes for them is solidly for Hunter.
Then again, modern presidents (and first ladies) clearly live for a long time. Might be the best thing he can do for his little ones!
I agree that his performance was much better, in that he showed energy and enthusiasm.
That he chose to focus that newfound E & E on attacking a single other candidate is the flaw. Had he chose to attack the others as a group (of course he can say specific things about particular candidates), he would have differentiated himself.
Since he failed to do this, he has relegated himself to faultfinder, not leader.
I'd say that its the first block to build the foundation.
Its no secret that Huckabee took everyone by surprise and set Thompson's campaign back on its heels. Totally aided by the media. I'm glad that Thompson has drawn the line in the sand and is ready to duel Huckabee. Then he can convince the independents and libertarians on the way to the convention.
What is very clear is that it is wide open right now and SC is Thompson's opening. We shall see.
Fred a troll for Mc Cain?
It doesn’t seem a lot in touch with reallity.
HUCK is a one-issue “conservative” candidates and he is on the left-lib side for all the other issues. He arrived recently and suddenly under the spotlights of the electoral stage.
And at least if Fred would like to help Mc Cain why are they both competing in SC ? Romney ,on the contrary, let SC aside....
That is a problem IMHO with someone who does not have age appropriate wife or children.
I think he comes over better without them but that is just me and may not be the case for others.
Again although I think he was good last night and certainly after Duncan Hunter would be my choice I do still fear in this media beautiful people era whether he has the looks and personality to appeal countrywide. He answered a few of my doubts last night but not all of them.
NRO has really been disgracing itself these last couple of days—with the exception of a few contributors, such as Peter Robinson, who has been trying gamely to debunk the reckless rumor-promulgating against Fred.
We’ve gone now from got in too late, sleepy, and doesn’t want it, to about to drop out, to stalking horse for McCain and only running for the veep slot all along.
They erred in their infatuation with and endorsement of Romney (who has also spread some money around to their foundation), and now they are defending it with baseless, discredited and directly denied rumors.
Romney has not announced a retreat from South Carolina, he simply has pulled his ads for a while.
That could be because he is tight on money and has been running ads for months, and decided it would be better if he ran ads right before the election instead of this week.
However, I’ve seen several people take the ad stop as “pulling out”. Since “pulling out” is just a rumor, and is designed to make people think Romney isn’t trying to get votes, and to therefore suppress his vote, I am expecting a bunch of freepers to come running to denounce this outrageous dirty trick.
Actually, I wouldn’t hold your breath, because it’s against Mitt Romney, and dirty tricks against Mitt Romney are welcome.
It’s the same thing that happened to Romney when Romney went after Huck, only at that time people here were quite happy to see Romney falsely maligned.
Now they are wondering why it’s happening to their favorite candidate.
Of course not. When Huckabee did his non-ad advertisement to “correct Romney’s Lies”, the ad didn’t have a single word about what Huckabee’s real record was, much less a single word showing that Romney lied about it. It was just an attack on Romney — as if lying about Romney’s record proves that Romney’s facts about Huckabee must be wrong.
There's quite a bit of evidence that Huck and McCain have some kind of a "non-agression pact".
And I suppose everybody would love it if FR would come together, regardless of which candidate you support, and denounce MSM for allowing lies about our candidates.
And here I am, but I don’t suppose a lot of Mitt Romney supporters will join us — after all, when the exact same thing was done to Romney, the fred supporters were just gleeful that the MSM was doing their dirty work for them.
You know, you lie down with the dogs, you get fleas, or something like that. Fred supporters were pushing huckabee and mccain, and now they’ve got’em. We could have denounced MSM, called our conservative talk show hosts and asked them to denounce Huckabee and the MSM for lying about Romney, but instead we encouraged it.
They came for Romney, now they are coming for Fred.
Actually, their targets were Romney, and now Thompson. They never targeted tancredo or hunter because they never had enough support to worry about.
But they’ve been slamming Romney for weeks now, and having propped up Huckabee in Iowa (and getting away with it with the help of conservative Thompson supporters, who even bit on the crazy story about Romney being involved in the Thompson’s dropping out story which was pushed by the MSM, not Romney), and propping up McCain in New Hampshire, they are ready to target Thompson in the first state Thompson said he cared about.
The facts are this, Huckabee has changed his positions recently to get this nomination. He is doing the exact same thing McCain does. Maybe Huck is McCains new Lindsey Graham.
Maybe he can show he is strong by holding a press conference at which he plays an attack ad he says he has decided not to air. /s
