"That was a low-blow."

Excuse me, but if the man wants to draw attention to his accomplishments by something other than repeatedly referring to a former Governor of my State (who I voted for) as a scumbag, puke, douche bag, whatever, than he should anticipate some sort of a backlash.

His posts might be worthy of attention if he did not make a habit of throwing his honorable service into the mix at every turn.

That practice is BS.

I probably would never even have noticed his insipid posts if he had not regularly thrown in that silly green "I am retired Army " crap.

And that is his entire motivation, to get my (our) attention.

Nothing lower about what I posted than what he is doing out here.

Fred did criticize McCain and McCain's illegal immigration bill in the debate. Check the transcript.

Okay, I checked, here it is..... [drumroll]:

"I disagree with my friend, John McCain, on the bill that they proposed last year".

http://www.seatwave.com/FileStore/SEASON/IMAGE/wwe-smackdown568/wwe-smackdown568_MainPicture.jpg

SMACKDOWN!

I stand corrected, and apologize to the entire FR community for having stated "Thompson did not utter a discouraging word about McCain". What with Thompson's kneecapping of McCain with this statement, you were absolutely right in correcting me:

BS! You don't know what you are talking about.

Kerry makes an excellent target for satirical poems. Even his name is ripe for the pickin'.......as in scary, chary, wary and hari-kari, LOL.

Good work on your epic poem you've pinged me to. I loved it!

Speaking of the Swiftboaters, I just ordered and received the book "To Set the Record Straight (How Swift Boat Veterans, POWs and the New Media Defeated John Kerry)"

The book is authored by two of our own freepers, Interesting Times and The Shrew. I shuffled through it and wow, does it ever look fascinating and meaty.....with lots of photos and inside stuff.....and I see Free Republic.com mentioned in several chapters. I think you can contact Interesting Times by freepmail to find out how to order the book. I'll be up late tonight reading it, that's for sure.

RTO, I hereby tap you on the shoulder with a Heinz catsup bottle and dub you a full-fledged member of the FR Light Verse Brigade, of which I'm founding Colonel. Aculeus is Field Marshall and Dighton is the very model of a modern Major General.

It's a very loose-as-a-goose brigade, but I'll ping you when good freeper doggerel pops up on this board.

MMmmm, could be.....;)

He’s been following Fred’s lead since the Iowa debate when he tried to “me too” on Fred’s coat-tails after starting to raise his hand...

He sees the value in that now...LOL

The Charge of the Light Verse Brigade... I’m Lovin’ it. Many thanks, my dear lady. I accept the honors. Does this make me “Sir” RTO?

Forward, the Light Verse Brigade!”
Was there a FReeper betray’d?
Not tho’ the troller knew
His foolery had blunder’d:
Their’s not in fraud or lie,
Their’s not of treason, high,
Their’s to slew with wisdom sly:
Into the gallery of jest
Wrote the six hundred.
3.
Patriots to right of them,
McCaniacs to left of them,
Clintons in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with snot and shrill,
Boldly they keyed verse well,
Into the jaws of Jest,
Into the mouth of Hillary
Wrote the six hundred...

A Thousand pardons Lord Tennyson.

Well done, Sir RTO.

I suspect thou shalt rise rapidly in the ranks of the FR Light Verse Brigade.

When can our glory fade?
Oh, the wild verse we've made
Honor the poems we've made
Honor the Light Verse Brigade
All the Dems wonder as we tear them asunder
And serve them Kool-Aid

I have nothing but respect for our Veterans. I am actually in awe of those who actually serve so long as to be able to earn the title “retired.”

For what it is worth, both of my sons are in the Army Reserve right now. One was former RA, and the other is likely to soon become RA. One an Officer the other Enlisted.

It is not the sort of thing that likely thousands of other FReepers have to remind us of on every single post out here.

I just found it to be an annoyance and finally I said something.

I should have not posted on the matter at all, but it is done now.

Regards.

OFF TOPIC, but RE the Foster Brooks pic ... I've been told that ol' FB made his first major appearance on Johnny Carson as a guest purporting to be the Mayor of Burbank, and that it was a good joke on Carson as no one told him Brooks was a comedian. Can you imagine Carson beginning that interview thinking he's talking to the real Mayor of Burbank, and it being Foster Brooks? What fun! Just thinking about it (especially as I know Burbank a bit) makes me crack up.

It must be one of the funniest bits of talk show ever filmed -- I've looked online for a clip of that appearance, and can't find any. You guys ever seen it or heard of it?

Thompson occassionaly says something pro-life but he clearly sees his view of ultra-federalism as much more important and has gone out of his way to alianate us this election cycle.

I'm finally catching up on this long-fizzled thread that I didn't have a chance to finish "live."

I don't speak for anybody but myself, as I expect YOU don't speak for any but yourself. Abortion and homosexuality are wicked things but they are both moral failures and outside the control of Federal law. They always have been, and they always will be. The best way we can maintain each our own abilities to do battle with such immorality is in our own freedom. To wit: You're an employer who's hired a nice enough young man for a retail place in a store. After six or eight months, it turns out the kid has taken on a gay persona like some of his favorite characters on TV. He's getting swishier and more flamboyant by the day, and your customers don't like it. And now some of his gay buddies are hanging out in the store. Customers really don't like that. You feel bad for the kid becuase you know that in ten years, there's a good possibility the kid will have outgrown it or grown a little more discretion, class, and self-confidence to leave his sex life out of his public persona. Doesn't matter -- YOU CAN'T FIRE HIM because the Federal government thinks that's not moral.

Thompson as a Senator, I understand, took a morally principled and socially TABOO stance and voted against legislation that aimed to "protect" homosexuals from being "discriminated against" in the workplace. He didn't do it because of the homosexuality; he did it because he (as do I) believes that it's morally wrong for the Federal Government to interfere between employer and employee in a moral free-market system.

The kind of principle that I as a Christian like best is the one that allows us to live like Christians -- and believe me FRiend, the Federal Government already has every hard-working taxpayer's labor going toward abortions and programs that lend moral support to gay "rights" groups. Good sense tells me that morality will thrive in Freedom, where Federal Government (and local, for that matter!) is LIMITED to judging and punishing criminal and ethical failures. We ALL, every single one of us ever born, are guilty of moral failures of one rank or another, because it is our lot in life, our way to improve, our path to righteousness. God gives us free will.

A Federal Government LIMITED to hands-off in the arena of punishing moral failure is the only path to a society that can freely pursue and attain Christian morality. There will always be people who are immoral. Federal meddling PREVENTS US from responding in a moral fashion and rejecting it.

I haven’t seen it. My God, that must be priceless.

The only Foster Brooks I’ve seen is on the old Dean Martin tapes. But I love Johnny and miss that generation of entertainers.

Someday it will surface, I hope. That one as the tipsy airline pilot -- when he starts talking about how it's a big responsibility, having the lives of these people in his very hands -- and Dean Martin has completely lost it, so badly that he has to get a hankie out of his pocket and wipe his eyes, he's laughing so hard but trying to be the straight man. Brooks was hilarious.

We had a neighbor across the way in a crowded but semi-upperscale urban condo 'hood in So Cal. He had a drinking problem, but he was amiable, played music a little too loud, worked in his yard or his boat, and was generally cheerful and productive if a little looped sometimes. Then a gal moved in with him, maybe a wife, and all hell broke lose. With her, anyway. She was beyond a nightmare, screeching and screaming at the guy, and you'd hear kind of a low mumble in reply, to her caterwauling about bounced checks and money for her mother and horrible stuff. We felt so bad for the guy. She'd scream and leave for a few weeks or months, then be back. During the time she was gone he was always happy and singing, we could hear him, to his music as he puttered around the house in peace. We called him Foster Brooks.

OK... Here we go, hold on tight:
You all know the old gospel hymn, ‘Michael Row the Boat Ashore’, which was sung by freed slaves who rowed long boats from Saint Helena Island to the mainland during the American Civil War. Here is my version, as applied to Mike Huckabee...

MICHAEL SOLD HIS SOUL FOR SURE, PAL HE’S FOOLED YA,
MICHAEL KNOWS YOU’RE INSECURE... YOU’RE A LOO-OO-SER.
GETS’ YOUR HELP TO SPIN HIS TALE, HE’S A USER,
LETS MAD FELONS OUT OF JAIL, PARDONS TO-OO-YA.

MICHAEL SOLD HIS SOUL FOR SURE, PAL HE’S FOOLED YA,
MICHAEL KNOWS YOU’RE INSECURE... YOU’RE A LOO-OO-SER.
HIS STARE IS DEEP AND STARRY EYED, PAL HE’S COOL, YEAH,
MILKIN’ DUMMIES FULL OF PRIDE... GLAD HE KNEW-EW-YA.

MICHAEL SOLD HIS SOUL FOR SURE, PAL HE’S FOOLED YA,
MICHAEL KNOWS YOU’RE INSECURE... YOU’RE A LOO-OO-SER.
M-S-M IS ALL ABOARD... PAL THEY RULE YA,
M-S-M WILL WIELD THE SWORD WHEN THEY CHOO-OOSE, YEAH.

MICHAEL SOLD HIS SOUL FOR SURE, PAL HE’S FOOLED YA,
MICHAEL KNOWS YOU’RE INSECURE... YOU’RE A LOO-OO-SER.
WHEN HE’S CHOSEN THEY’LL RING ‘M OUT... IN THE NEWS, YEAH,
HIS MEDIA BUDDIES ALL GONNA SHOUT: HE’S A LOO-OO-SER!

MICHAEL SOLD HIS SOUL FOR SURE, PAL HE’S FOOLED YA,
MICHAEL KNOWS YOU’RE INSECURE... YOU’RE A LOO-OO-SER.
LIBS WILL JUMP WITH JUBILEE... HOW THEY FOOLED YA,
THEN WE’LL GET OL’ HILLARY, AND SHE’LL RU-ULE YA.

MICHAEL SOLD HIS SOUL FOR SURE, PAL HE’S FOOLED YA,
MICHAEL KNOWS YOU’RE INSECURE... YOU’RE A LOO-OO-SER.
