The Soviets have nothing on us.
One of my best friends moved from Houston about ten years ago. When he and I drove down to Texas, he literally shuddered when he saw a turn off for Houston.
I can’t blame him.

Houstonians blamed Bud, but it wasn't Bud, it was Mayor Bob!
Bud left town and guess what, a new football stadium was built.
I bet Mayor Bob and his cronies made tons of money and still making it off all the new downtown developements like Minute-Made park, George R. Brown convention center, the new basketball stadium, new Hilton hotel.
Gotta love how the city forked over to pay $300,000,000 for a new football stadium and then the team owner got $300,000,000 from Reliant for the naming rights to that stadium.
The money is there. It is stolen under our noses.
Bob Lanier’s handpicked successors were Brown and White. I wonder who our next mayor will be. Someone should ask Bob and the Chron.
Ole “Turkey Neck” is at it again...
Anyone hearing anything lately about “Tootsie” either???
People forget that Bill White was the Harris County Democrat Chairman.
What a loser that guy was and still is.
Didn't he get a gig at Rice University for a while?
I wonder what city is unlucky enough to have him now?
And Lee P. Brown was the Chief of Police.
And both Brown and White served in the Clinton administration.

Yep, from Atlanta during the era of that mass murderer.
Lanier: “You won the Championship and the MVP-—those are the two biggest feats in basketball.”
Cowens: “No, Bob, *those* were the two biggest feets in basketball.”
Announcer: “There’s only one light beer, Miller Lite.”
The dirty little secret about our downtown lights is that they WON’T put them in synch. They’ve already explained that the train, which runs irregularly, automatically sets the lights to red in all 4 directions at once (in other cities, the trains have to stop at lights like every other vehicle).
They said that the train would interrupt the timing of the lights so why bother.
And I think there was a scandal during his time with the police in NYC too.
I seem to recall that White promised he would fix that.
Sacramento and other cities have light rail running through the downtown, and they have lights in sync. You can drive through Sacramento at 35 mph and never have to stop for a stoplight. It’s beautiful.
Yet Houston can’t figure it out. Wow.
Is Addie still on the council? She’s awesome.
