Evangelicals Against Mitt
The American Spectator ^ | 1/3/2008 | Carrie Sheffield

Posted on 01/08/2008 4:09:13 PM PST by tantiboh

Mitt Romney is facing an unexpected challenge in Iowa from rival Mike Huckabee, who has enjoyed a groundswell of support from religious voters, particularly evangelical Christians wary of the clean-cut former Massachusetts governor because of his Mormon religion.

The common worry among evangelicals is that if Romney were to capture the White House, his presidency would give legitimacy to a religion they believe is a cult. Since the LDS church places heavy emphasis on proselytizing -- there are 53,000 LDS missionaries worldwide -- many mainstream Christians are afraid that Mormon recruiting efforts would increase and that LDS membership rolls would swell.

...

THE ONLY PROBLEM with those fears is that they don't add up. Evangelicals may be surprised to learn that the growth of church membership in Massachusetts slowed substantially during Romney's tenure as governor. In fact, one could make the absurdly simplistic argument that Romney was bad for Mormonism.

...

ONE WAY TO GAUGE what might happen under a President Romney would be to look at what happened during the period of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Held in Salt Lake City, they were dubbed the "Mormon Olympics."

...

Despite all the increased attention, worldwide the Church grew only slightly, and in fact in the year leading up to the games the total number of congregations fell. Overall, from 2000 to 2004, there was a 10.9 percent increase in memberships and a 3.6 percent increase in congregations.

...

The LDS church is likely to continue its current modest-but-impressive growth whether or not Romney wins the White House. Perhaps the only real worry for evangelicals is that, if elected, the former Massachusetts governor will demonstrate to Americans that Mormons don't have horns.

Carrie Sheffield, a member of the LDS Church, is a writer living in Washington, D.C.

Being an X-Cultist myself (Christian Science),
I’d rather speak to non believers than try to
argue with cultists.
They MUST be correct or
else admit naivete. Can’t do that. No. Mustn’t
admit you’re stupid or gullible or lack common sense.

There ya go!!

All you needed to do was provide a single specific unambiguous prophecy that Christ fulfilled.

Lord; our united prayer is that You reveal Yourself to LeGrande in such a way that his mind will not be able to rationalize it away and Satan will not be able to interfer.

Matthew 18:19
Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Sleep tight...

I’m always amazed when the only “proof” posted only confirms the doctrine of trinity.

I'm always amazed when evidence is presented from an impartial (non-Mormon) source, and the only refutation is an opinion and that opinion by an anonymous poster is considered to be authoritative by the Anti Mormons.

Hypocrisy in flagrante delicto (which I think is an appropriate term for this thread...)

“I’m not Mormon...and not planning on becoming Mormon, or making valuations about Mormonism based on Romney. If I vote for Romney, I would be hiring Romney to balance the books, streamline government, reduce taxes, keep our economy healthy, appoint conservative judges, keep us on offense in the war, and above all, beat the DEMS!”

I am not Mormon either, and the fact that Romney is a Mormon does not bother me. I voted for Mitt Romney yesterday because I believe he is the most conservative candidate left in the race. I pray that on Super Tuesday all real conservatives and moderate conservatives will vote for Mitt Romney to keep Amnesty McCain from being our nominee! I also believe that Romney would defeat Hillary or Obama and that McCain would not. Just watch whom the MSM pushes! The MSM would love for McCain to be our nominee because when they get through with him, Hillary would win the White House. Mitt Romney is any conservative’s best choice righ now. GO MITT

Seems that the word “ambiguous” is your ticket
out of town. It’s admitedly subjective and can
be spun to your convenience. So be it. But don’t
try to suggest that I didn’t give you definitive
evidence of fulfilled prophecy. I did. It’s there,
but you chose to label it ambiguous. Your loss.

Oh yes! Father I stand in prayer agreeing with Elsie
asking for LeGrande by name. You know his name, the
number of hairs on his head and You have saved his
tears in a bottle. Thank you Father that You are
a God who is intimate with us - face to Face. We look
forward to looking back at what You have done in
LeGrande’s life.

In Jesus Mighty Name!

Yes too bad Rabbi's and sages have come to the same conclusion. A tradition that's been interpreting their own writings 1500 years before the NT came along. But of course they're blinded and have had stumblingblocks set in front of them. /sarc

You don't even pay attention to your own writings.

Matthew 6:5-7 (King James Version)

5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Here's a sort of thought experiment for you:

Right Back at you with one, if a being that was trapped in time escapes from Time, is it now eternal?

Is there any time which it can be truthfully said not to exist, even if it had a beginning in time? can a being that "becomes eternal" visit the time before it was "Created". if this being exists outside of time, why not?

Something that is now eternal, always has been even if it was created at some point in "time". just the same way you can go to Nebraska without having been born there.

So, if Jesus was created first (the first born of spirits) and became eternal and created all things at Gods command, he is from everlasting to everlasting there is no "time" when he did not exist for he created time and time is but a bubble in the eternities which he controls, how would you describe such a being if you are John or peter, or Paul? In apostolic times, Did people believe the world was flat or Round?

Why didn't the apostles teach them it was round?

The concepts necessary to the description of God did not exist then, we know a little (I mean very little) more now, so our descriptions of God should progress with that understanding, don't you think? (or Don't you think.)

~”I find it curious that you keep insulting the Savior but the Mormons embrace you as their freind in what they are seeking to do...”~

a.) Personally, I’m confident Christ can take care of Himself.

b.) I’ve never seen LeGrande insult the Savior. I’ve seen him state that he doesn’t believe in God (which is fine), and I’ve seen him insult you and your friends (which is funny). I hope you’re not proposing that an insult to you is tantamount to an insult to the Savior?
