McALLEN, Texas Three Americans were among 10 suspects arrested in a shootout with Mexican federal troops Monday that left three gunmen dead in the Mexican border city of Rio Bravo.
A gunfight broke out in front of the Rio Bravo police station between Mexican soldiers, federal police and suspected drug cartel members, officials said.
The Americans arrested Monday were Esteban Valdez de los Santos of Texas and Ricardo Zamora Lopez and Jose Raul Gonzalez Sanchez, both of Detroit, The McAllen Monitor reported. It wasn't immediately known where in Texas Valdez was from.
The Monitor reported that at least two soldiers and one federal police officer were injured in the fighting. One soldier was hospitalized in Reynosa.
Authorities seized 40 weapons, including AK-47s and AR-15s, as well as three vehicles.
Witnesses described a frightening scene with gunmen breaking down doors and positioning themselves inside homes for the gun battle.
It was the second outbreak of gun violence in Rio Bravo, about 15 miles south of McAllen, in recent months. On Nov. 30, former Rio Bravo Mayor Juan Antonio Guajardo Anzaldu and five others were killed in a shooting outside a downtown restaurant.
After that incident, Mexican President Felipe Calderon sent thousands of soldiers and federal police to calm the city. Tamaulipas state, which is home to Rio Bravo, is the base for the Gulf cartel and has been plagued by drug violence.
El drugo dealeros de motown.
You are probably right.
The Americans arrested Monday were Esteban Valdez de los Santos of Texas and Ricardo Zamora Lopez and Jose Raul Gonzalez Sanchez, both of Detroit, Oh yeah!....I’m sure they are Americans.
Anchor baby Americans.
Let me guess:
John Wayne
James Caan
Walter Brennan
What do I win?
John Wayne, Dean Martin & Ricky Nelson????????????
Nothing - that was “El Dorado”. ;-)
“What do I win?”
Nada...wrong movie. LOL
The Winnah!
This sounds more like a remake of “The Wild Bunch”.
Seeing that kind of fire power, is yet another reason that Americans need guns. We’re going to have to be defending ourselves from the scum that is slithering across the border out of Mexico.
James Caan (Alan Bourdillion Traherne (’Mississippi’)))was in El Dorado, “Ride, boldly ride”
Nothing. That was El Dorado.
These three? Gee, I always thought it only a movie.
Coming to a town near you.
