Yeah, and people made fun of me here because I called Ron Paul on his historical anti-semetism.

He’s a bigot, and a blight.

And what is incorrect about that interpretation of US history?

Shhh, the Civil War was all about slavery!

When I asked Jesse Benton, Paul's campaign spokesman, about the newsletters, he said that, over the years, Paul had granted "various levels of approval" to what appeared in his publications--ranging from "no approval" to instances where he "actually wrote it himself." After I read Benton some of the more offensive passages, he said, "A lot of [the newsletters] he did not see. Most of the incendiary stuff, no." He added that he was surprised to hear about the insults hurled at Martin Luther King, because "Ron thinks Martin Luther King is a hero."

That just does not wash. If you are going to put out a newsletter under your own name and under your own management, you are responsible, at some level, for the content. If Ron Paul really though Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a hero, he should have been a heck of a lot more careful about the statements that were made in his name. There is an awful lot of scurrilous racist nonsense that came out in those newsletters.

I see the same pattern in Ron Paul's pussy-footing around with Truthers. He appears on the same stage, he sympathises, he agrees that there should be more investigation, he doubts the government story, but when denies that he is one of them, and we're supposed to believe him. I'm sorry, it does not wash.

I'm going to ping a couple of Ron Paul supporters to this response, because I would like to hear what they have to say about this.

Also pinging wideawake (not a Ron Paul supporter, as far as I can tell), because we were having a similar talk this morning.

That’s way to long to read here at work....what’s the headline? Did he or didn’t he?

Joe Lieberman. John Breaux. Actually, I would’ve probably led off with Rudy Giuliani. I’m sure I could come up with quite a few others besides Kucinich.

Weeble, it is strange how you NEVER condemn anything Paul says or does but you like to point out how you play a grammar teacher on FR, since you stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Don't worry, Ed, your grammar is pretty horrible too.

"Who was it who said that just going on a 'couple of times' is no proof of a relationship or something on those lines?"

I don't have time to look back at the archives, but I was there when a Paultard made that comment.

We looked back at actual links to Alex Jone's website with regard to Ron Paul, but only saw about 3. However, just because there are only a few links, does not mean that Ron Paul has not been on Alex Jone's show more often.

Ron Paul's pick for Defense Secretary, Cindy Sheehan is also a frequent guest on Alex Jone's show.

It depends on who you will listen to. I’ll take the high road and for now, agree with the campaign spokesperson that these were written by someone else (a ghost writer?) in paul’s name and he didn’t have any control of what happened in his name.

This author doesn't think very highly of the "right-wing militia movement," does he. I was (and still am) a member of the Missouri 51st Militia, and it would be hard to find a finer group of people, IMO.

Since when has The New Republic been considered a reliable new source?

Are you going to start posting stuff from DailyKos and CounterPunch next?

I think he has integrity, that is to say, he means what he says and isn’t a phony

So Islamists who say "America is the Great Satan" have integrity because they mean what they say?

"rational Paul apologists"

You must be tired, because that is one of the biggest oxymorons I have seen in a long time.

Who said it was reliable? It is news, it is posted to debate on if it is reliable or not. A lot of stories are posted here from sources like the New York Times, CNN, or other leftist groups for us to read and decide if it is reliable or not.

It was apparently reliable enough for Paul’s campaign to contribute a comment to it.

Good point. It's possible that TNR is on to something about Paul, but it gets lost in the left-wing diatribe.

Paul is responsible for every word in a newsletter that bears his name.

He's already accepted responsibility for the words written in his name and has apologized for them. What more do you want?
