Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won the first Republican primary of the 2008 election last week, but many top conservatives are not happy, with some calling him a "christian socialist" and others a "Republican Jimmy Carter."

I disagree. If slamming needs to be done, better to do it now than after the election, or once a BAD candidate is chosen for President. So-called slamming is truth-telling and like it or not, needs to be done as soon as possible.
I agree with you. Part of being a Democracy is supporting the lesser of two evils. If Huckabee is the lesser of two evils he’s pretty dang good. Sorry to say, sometimes you have to be pragmatic in a democratic system like ours. Believe me, I want a Ronald Reagan more than anybody.
Huckabee is the most conservative out of Rudy, Romney, McCain. He is a social conservative and a fiscal moderate and at least for the most part his rhetoric of late has been more Reagan than Obama. Yeah, there are some things about his record that sucks, but people forget he signed the Norquist tax pledge. He won’t be near as bad on economic issues as some have morphed him into on here. No he won’t be the best, but I’ll take my chances with Huckabee over Obama or Clinton any day.
The guy plucking the Brian Wilson Bass.
STOP THE SLIDE TO THE MIDDLE!
NO MORE RINOS!
VOTE WITH CONSERVATIVE CONSCIENCE!
So far, only RG and FT are NOT.
McCain uses the UnAmerican Democrat Party talking points consistently in his campaign.
Romney, less, but has gone down that road.
Again, so far the only two whose campaigns have not tried to score brownie points with the MSM and liberal voters, are RG and FT.
There is alot in those links. You cant talk sense into these people; they just hate you more. They eventually will have to come to their own senses.
I like Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. Rudy will do in a pinch. I could even stomach Romney. Huckabee, however, scares me almost as much as Hillary Clinton.
What do you have to do to be named a true social conservative? Take $40,000 in speaking fees from the leading research firm for embryonic stem-cell research? Or maybe promote the early release of serial rapists because of their sudden discovery of Jesus? Or call for the closing of terrorist detention facilities in order to make Muslims happy? Or possibly calling the “Michael Vicking” by his son of a dog a “mercy killing”? Or calling me un-Christian for not supporting socialized medicine via SCHIP?
Of the top four or five candidates, Huckabee would have the hardest time beating any of the Democrats. (Ron Paul is the only one who could do worse, and he doesn’t have a chance in the Republican race.)
The fact is that Huckabee is not a social conservative. Except for abortion, he is socially liberal seeing the state as a means for correcting social problems. He is basically a Republican Jimmy Carter, and is certainly not the most likely to win against Hillary or any of the top three Dems.
All of these slamming fools don’t realize that they are just invoking the sympathy factor. That’s exactly what got Clinton elected.
Huck is not socially conservative as you assert. He is the Dems best friend. He has turned Arkansas into a one party Dem state and would do the same for the US with his open border policies.
I really think that he is unelectable in any case, as is Giulinai for slightly different reasons. Many Republicans would refuse to support these liberals in sheep’s clothing.
The only option is to support a conservative instead.
You know something, Haz, I hadn’t looked at it in that light before, but you know... Juries almost always get it right. I say ALMOST, because I know there are instances they don’t. But the public tends to ‘get it right’ based on FACTS. The elected Clinton to office because they wanted “CHANGE”. Well, they sure got change didn’t they and instantly went back to a better President when they were running Gore or Kerry.
This time around, IF we get a Dhimicrat in office then it will be because of what you just said. I’m not voting for those guys you mentioned either. (And I have as much experience in the White House as Hillary!!!!! LOL!)
Yes. I have said I will not vote for Huckabee, Rudy, Romney, or McCain. I will stay home and circle the wagons and wait for 2012.
One caller today on Rush said that may be what it to takes to get a true conservative to win and not a Rudy McRombee is 4 more of Carter style malaise.
Certain Republicans can say what they want, I will not vote for a RINO ever again, I am a conservative first.
I think we are headed for the smoke filled room come the convention.
Rush is conservative. He was, is, and will be conservative. He is defending conservatism. If that “slams” anyone, it’s because their record, or their rhetoric, doesn’t meet the definition of conservative.
People ought to support the candidate of their choice, but they should be honest about it. Don’t try to change the definition of conservatism to fit the candidate.
That smacks of wagging “10 lb. Bibles” to show you’re a Christian when your behavior belies the precepts of the book you’re wagging.
“Is Rush putting fiscal conservatism before social conservatism?”
If he isn’t, he ought to be. It’s the president’s job to run the country, not run my life.
Huckabee is a pro-life Hillary. Period.
