Why I Believe Bush Must Go (Barf Alert)
Washington Compost ^ | January 6, 2008 | George McGovern

Posted on 01/06/2008 8:56:28 AM PST by Kaslin

As we enter the eighth year of the Bush-Cheney administration, I have belatedly and painfully concluded that the only honorable course for me is to urge the impeachment of the president and the vice president.

After the 1972 presidential election, I stood clear of calls to impeach President Richard M. Nixon for his misconduct during the campaign. I thought that my joining the impeachment effort would be seen as an expression of personal vengeance toward the president who had defeated me.

Today I have made a different choice.

Of course, there seems to be little bipartisan support for impeachment. The political scene is marked by narrow and sometimes superficial partisanship, especially among Republicans, and a lack of courage and statesmanship on the part of too many Democratic politicians. So the chances of a bipartisan impeachment and conviction are not promising.

But what are the facts?

Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution. They have transgressed national and international law. They have lied to the American people time after time. Their conduct and their barbaric policies have reduced our beloved country to a historic low in the eyes of people around the world. These are truly "high crimes and misdemeanors," to use the constitutional standard.

From the beginning, the Bush-Cheney team's assumption of power was the product of questionable elections that probably should have been officially challenged -- perhaps even by a congressional investigation.

Can the Democrat led Congress’ numbers go any lower? Have they reached 1,000 investigations launched in 365 days yet?

He says no time in our history has been as destructive as Bush Cheney. I’d like to offer a small list he overlooked: 1968 - Vietnam, assassinations and riots in every major city; WW I & II; Civil War (costliest in history and fought on US soil); War of 1812 (fought here and we essentially lost, White House burned). I’m sure I missed many.

If Comrade McGovern had been elected President in ‘72 (thank you GOD for NOT allowing THAT to happen!), America would very likely not exist today, and what DID exist would be a combination of a Soviet gulag and a radioactive dead zone.

Yes, yes, yes, some whiner will have to poke their nose in here and say ‘McGovern flew bombers in World War II’, but so did a lot of other closet Commies and that doesn’t negate the fact that McGovern is every bit the traitor as is John F’in Kerry, Tom ‘Choke Back The Tears’ Harkin, and Jimmah ‘Upgrade 3-Purple-Scratches-Boy’s Discharge’ Carter.

I thought he was dead. Oh, sorry, that was his daughter who died, frozen in an alley, dead drunk. Parental neglect????? Cold-hearted bastard of a father??? What a mean spirited, judgmental thing to say.

George McGovern is what, 98 years old? Trust the Washington Post to let an addled old man make a complete fool of himself. And where’s McGovern’s family? Isn’t there anybody around to help keep an eye on George, keep him out of mischief?

I thought Oprah’s Kid, (who is a member of McGovern’s UnAmerican Democrat Party), said he wanted to “change” DC? He wanted the end of partisanship, he wanted us all to get along?

Obama preaching hope? While is compatriots preach hate? (Reminds me of Arafat who used to speak peace in English, and speak death to his people in their language)

(And even conservative commentators are falling for his line of BS.)

Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution

If that's the criteria for impeachment then it would apply to nearly every President in modern history.

McGovern: senile, socialist, and perpetually bitter about getting his clock cleaned in '72.

McGovern - a man of the people.

Didn’t he win one state when he ran against Nixon?
