Fred was absolutely right and wholly entitled to that stance. But I fear he could have been absolutely wrong to take it. As much as I, personally, cheer his statement, I also know it could be very costly.

Maybe not, though. Could they ignore him any less? If they try to punish him by airing the bit of petulance, he'll at least get some airtime. And he'll definitely pick up the Bobby Knight vote.

Fred is in the race to do the right thing, not pander and kneel to the press. He is paving the way for a showdown between the press, and all those who value fairness, integrity, and honesty. We will see how it goes.

The right thing is the only thing, otherwise you might as well just hand your soul over to the devil with box of chocolates.

The reality is that the media decides who is viable and who is not and Fred has to play the game by their rules or else be a spectator. This is not solely the media’s fault, it’s the sheeple who look to the networks for leadership.

If this is a true statement, and it may prove to be... then it says a lot more about the GOP constituency than it does Fred Thompson as a serious candidate.

Which would you rather have? Just think about that a moment....

... and then tell me how you can not seem to get behind the only adult in the race and the only remaining viable candidate who stands on principal?

As if they’ve been anything but hostile or flatout ignoring Fred since the start....get real

Bad press is better then none at all. Especially when you’re being “principled”.

Yes, FRed has principles. I guess that’s something to jeer at when one is a Ron Paul fan.

==> “...he just “principled” himself right out of the race by pissing off the media - smart move.” <==

This is not scolding, because I know that you don’t intend to demonstrate shallowness by your comment. But every one of us on this forum MUST know better than to let the media, the parties, and the campaign organizations shape our perception of the candidates.

This forum, and the uncountable number of information sources it taps to inform us about the candidates, gives us the ability to form our own opinions without the distortions and prevarications of the people and institutions that used to shape them.

Yes, of course many are still in thrall to those conduits of misinformation, but the declining popularity of the old media demonstrate that more people every day are Waking up from their complacency - and once they do, they will never go back.
