Charles Gibson will moderate the Republican and Democrat debates tonight in New Hampshire, beginning at 7 PM Eastern.
Have at it..
TN starts early voting on Jan 16 and much as I love the conveniencw of early voting, I think a one day election would work better...
Also absentee ballots need to be curbed....
The military and bonified businessman away that day etc could send in absentee ballots, but there is too much opportunity for fraud through the mail...
Also the internet is not a secure way to control fraudulent votes....
Let’s go back to using the precinct polling places that are set up each year...Americans are getting lazy...If you want to vote, get down to your local precinct and vote...
If the voter has to present himself or herself with proper photo ID, there should be less fraud and the illegal aliens and others are not going to even try to cheat the American public...
And axe the “exit polls” and the reporting of the results before California polls close...Callifornia hears the so called “results” and want to vote for a “winner”
Actually if the times were shuffled some, the polls would all close at the same time...
TN changed ours to Super Tuesday, Feb 5....
We used to be way after Super Tuesday...
“I guess that is why Romney stormed conservative Wyoming today and leads in delegates.”
Do you think it may have something to do with the fact that there are a lot of Mormons in Wyoming?
Thanks for your post. I saw the same segment and am impressed by your ability to remember it so well. Good reporting and good assessments on your part! McCain and Huckabee did not sound very Republican, or conservative, in that segment. I expect, or at least hope for, a free market orientation. I value your insights in your last three paragraphs. A Free Republic highpoint.
I didn’t see it, but that’s what I heard about it from friends who did.
Same one as these people:
Here is a video of McCain tanking on the focus group dial:

Now Romney soaring here:

and here:

And these people:
Fox News Dick Morris: I thought that Mitt Romney won the debate. (Fox News Live, 1/5/08)
Morris: You have to see this debate in two contexts. Partly, its a popularity contest but partly its an audition to see whos the toughest fighter, to see who would be the best boxer in the ring with Hillary or with Obama. Then he came across hands down as the toughest boxer. (Fox News Live, 1/5/08)
Morris: I really felt fundamentally Romney really made the field. (Fox News Live, 1/5/08)
National Reviews Jonathan Adler: At his best, [Romney] was persuasive and presidential. (Jonathan Adler, Re: Spin Room, National Reviews The Corner, http://corner.nationalreview.com=, Posted 1/5/08)
National Reviews Kathryn Jean Lopez: Romney showed a steadiness under fire, sounded like a guy who knows what hes talking about on a number of issues, and introduced more of his biography than he has at debates. I thought Romneys performance was a good start to a weekend of debates where he had to do well if he does very well tomorrow night, kicking it up a notch, he might show hes a turnaround artist yet in this primary process. (Kathryn Jean Lopez, I Second The Levin Emotion, National Reviews The Corner Blog, http://corner.nationalreview.com/, Posted 1/5/08)
The Atlantics Marc Ambinder: And Romney is in his wheelhouse. Hes been very strong so far and seems very eager to get in on every question, but his answers arent forced. The Real Mitt Romney (Marc Ambinder, Health Care, The Atlantic Blog, http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/, Posted 1/5/08)
Commentarys John Podhoretz: Mitt Romney is the most impressive performer this evening, striking a judicious tone of urgency and fluency. (John Podhoretz, New Hampshire: Halfway Through, Commentary Blog, http://www.commentarymagazine.com, Posted 1/5/08)
Podhoretz: But as a matter of performance solely, he is far and away the best and hes delivered it when he needed it most. (John Podhoretz, New Hampshire: Halfway Through, Commentary Blog, http://www.commentarymagazine.com, Posted 1/5/08)
National Reviews Mark Levin: I thought Romney actually held up pretty well, given the onslaught. (Mark R. Levin, The Debate, National Reviews The Corner Blog, http://corner.nationalreview.com/, Posted 1/5/08)
Riehl World Views Dan Riehl: If you were looking for substance across the board on issues, I think Romney was the clear winner in tonights debate. McCains well-known temperament problems lingered barely below the surface much of the evening, especially when someone dared disagree with him. Except of course, for his hugs for Hillary and slaps on the back for Fred. This is a change election and old hands from the Senate will not get it done. (Dan Riehl, ABC Debate: It Was Romneys Night, Riehl World View Blog, www.riehlworldview.com, Posted 1/5/08)
Riehl: Ive been watching the debate on ABC. I guess we can dispense with the nice guy image for Huckabee. He came out with one agenda - attack Romney. Romney handled it well. And as everyone else was on point and not looking to just attack, it left Huckabee looking like a jerk. Maybe he needs bookshelves floating behind him to make the nice guy image work? Just a thought. (Dan Riehl, The Republican Debate, Riehl World View Blog, www.riehlworldview.com, Posted 1/5/07)
Well, that would *not* make me sad...:) LOL
I just think Rudy is enough of a shrew to make it to the end...
I've taken to calling him The Guaranteed Eternal Sactuary Man (for any Genesis fans out there).
I believe that once the field narrows....if the field narrows, Rudy’s baggage will become an issue....
Why they are giving him a pass in the early going who knows?
Fred had a chance to really lay one on him in the Florida fiasco (when ROmney was drilling him on Kerik) and passed taking a diplomatic stance instead, but it was good...shrug
Something to the effect of “I guess in hindsight we’ve all hired people we might not have otherwise”...
Took the high road...that *used* to count for something...
Take your pick of any of the these 4. Rudy, Fred, McCain, Romney.
The Dems have an extremely weak field of candidates.
Unfortuantely GUBERnator thinks he can beat Obama with Obama’s campaign theme of change...LMAO
Interesting to see in those clips how closely the Republican and Independent responses stream until and whenever the military is mentioned: the independents always fall back down then.
They’re right with the Republicans for any talk of the greatness of our country and protecting it and its values, but at the mention of the military, they drop right down. The mention of using soft power and resources to effect change in the Middle East brings them back up with the Republican response, but again, mention of the military sends them back down again.
Gee, that was nice of you. However, I did take notes during the debate, it wasn’t all from memory.
Mitt is blasted here for his Mass plan, but at least he showed some recognition of what the average working person faces re healthcare and did something about it. And that something brought down the costs in that state.
I think we all wish for a free market solution, though. Once government gets into something, you’re not going to get it out.
Someone posted that one of Cheney’s daughters was working for Fred. Good for Fred. But Mitt just won Cheney’s state and its delegates, by a veto proof margin. Better for Mitt.
“Should you be denied service?”
I think that should be any caregiver’s right. However, if I were a caregiver, I’d have you (or your nearest relative if you were unconscious or whatever) charge it, or sign a billing contract, and treat it like any other contract. Enforceable in court. Why is health care such a sacred cow? I sign for other necessities: food. housing. clothing. Transportation. Heat/AC. I can sign for any other service I can think of.
First thing, I’d use my savings. Second thing, I’d use my credit cards. Third thing, I’d make a payment arrangement with the caregiver. Fourth thing, I’d liquidate assets. Fifth thing, I’d go to family. Sixth thing, I’d go to the church or charity.
In most circumstances, I don’t think I’d have to go beyond second thing.
It was an inside joke.
Most people usually don't who are posting things that aren't true and I start pointing out the actual facts.
Hi, Nana.
Vote twice for me!
Y’OK
Two more votes for Duncan
:)
And in the event they missed Mr. McNasty last night, good ole Brit Hume was quick to remind them today. He said he expected a more statesmen-like demeanor from him but instead he came across as bitter, simply looking for one liners (paraphrasing). Unfortunately, he added, many may have missed the debate choosing to watch football. Let's hope we get an encore performance tonight.
