So...
Whatever did happen with Tom DeLay and the charges against him? Inquiring minds want to know....
working out a plea???
They seem to have vanished just as soon as he was forced out of Congress.
The asshole who prosecuted Delay is retiring from office.

He never should have resigned especially for such an a**wipe as Ronnie Earle, the Demo county prosecutor ....
Ronnie Earle decided to retire ...
but he did get the political scalp he always wanted
on his lodgepole ...(mhbih)
God Bless Texas
I have no idea what the result of this will be.
Not just Tom DeLay, but Conrad Burns’ investigation that LOST his Senate seat was DROPPED yesterday!!!
Good link - thank you for including it in your reply!
Here is my favorite excerpt from the linked article:
DeLay and two Republican fundraisers who were indicted with him still are awaiting trial in Travis County on charges of money laundering and conspiring to launder money. Earle’s office lost its appeal earlier this year to have another charge of conspiracy to violate the election code reinstated against the three men.
While Earle didn’t mention the DeLay case by name in announcing he was leaving office, he seemed to allude to it.
“There are particular cases pending that are enormously important to this state, this country, and democracy itself. If they are not resolved during the forthcoming last year of my term I will offer my assistance on those matters on a pro bono basis to my successor,” Earle said in his prepared statement.
DeLay spokeswoman Shannon Flaherty said Earle “never had any intention of finishing off his revenge on Tom DeLay” and is afraid of being disgraced while in office.
“This is a no-brainer for him,” she said. “Good riddance to another corrupt DA.”
They’re very, very slowly making their way through the courts. Presumably Ronnie Earle doesn’t want it to go to trial quickly, since there’s no real case.
Indeed, on Intrade they have the odds of DeLay being convicted down to one in five.
Does it matter? DeLay was ousted. Just like when Blumenthal was suing Drudge for the impeachment news break - as soon as impeachment was resolved, the case evaporated.
Lawyers are scum.
You have to figure that if Earle had a prosecutable case against Delay he would remain in office until it went to trial so he could be in the national spotlight. I think he’s leaving so he can be unreachable by the media when a judge throws this case in the garbage can.
Fellow republicans did not stand up to the scumbag earl.Delay was doing “too” good a job.So republicans have one set of rules if one of their own is indicted(step down) and the rats stay in office until they are led away in chains(jefferson?).The battle within the party for the leadership positions is a back stabbing affair or so it would seem.Who will be next I wonder.
[On October 13, 2006, it was reported in the media that the Justice Department was investigating whether(Republican Congressman) Weldon illegally traded his political influence for lucrative lobbying and consulting contracts for his daughter. This represents a more serious investigation following on the heels of an FBI probe, ongoing for the past several months, into similar charges. Three days later, FBI agents raided his daughter’s home as well as five other locations of associates of Weldon in the Philadelphia area and in Jacksonville, Florida. On October 18, 2006, The Washington Post reported that a grand jury had been impaneled as part of the investigation.[6] However, there has been no evidence of any improprieties and the House Ethics Committee cleared Congressman Weldon of any wrongdoing in a 2005 hearing.] —Wikepedia
The FBI raids came less than a month before voters were to decide whether to reelect Rep. Weldon. He lost the election
Re: Curt Weldon
Here is one of the most sickening columns I ever read in my ten years here at FR.
Thank you, George Bush:

why don’t sharks attack lawyers?
Professional courtesy
And a Democrat will replace Earle and continue with the prosecution.
I agree it is sickening. The current news media can hide this stuff but I think history will eventually tell the whole sordid story.
*How many lawyer jokes are there?
Only two - the rest are true stories.
