Dobson: Iowa Shows Christian Right Is Still Strong
AP ^ | Jan 4, 2008

Posted on 01/04/2008 12:24:09 PM PST by Tlaloc

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson said Friday that GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's victory in the Iowa caucuses shows that Christian conservatives still have considerable influence.

Huckabee easily defeated second-place finisher Mitt Romney in Iowa Thursday thanks to a wave of support from evangelical Christians.

"The results of the Iowa caucuses reveal that conservative Christians remain a powerful force in American politics. That had to be a great shock to those on the far left," Dobson said in a written release.

Dobson criticized what he called media elites, saying they had written off religious conservatives.

Huckabee's victory "was evidence of an energized and highly motivated conservative community," Dobson said. "Not bad for a supposed bunch of demoralized, depressed, disillusioned and disengaged Reaganites."

Dobson said he has not endorsed Huckabee and said the former Arkansas governor may not win the GOP nomination.

In the next test, the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday, Christian conservatives are expected to be less of a force than they were in Iowa.

Thompson is asking for the evangelical vote, not you. He seems to want to separate himself from the evie crowd, which is his prerogative. Hunter doesn’t want to, he is openly evangelical, just like Huckabee. And Hunter is more socially conservative than Thompson, about the same as Huckabee on that score.

Let’s be honest enough to admit that the definition of “conservative” is tenuous, at best. For example, immigration. Conservative means:

Affording free and open opportunity to anyone who seeks it, exalting the power of the individual.

OR

Defining our boundaries and defending our right to prosper within them?

OR

Enforcing the law?

OR add your own defining factor.

The point is, I can find elements of conservatism in all of the above: opportunity for the individual, security for the whole, respect for the system.

Priorities can differ, but let’s not define someone out of the game because they choose to order them differently.

Dobson is a medical doctor who started a ministry called “Focus on the Family”.

http://www.family.org/

You won’t get responses from Petronski that do NOT stir the pot when it comes to James Dobson. She called him a jackass.

And for the lurkers among us, Petronski’s candidate is Fred Thompson. Remember that.

They can yell at me again, but I’ll say it again — Fred Thompson, get together with this guy and kiss and make up.

Fred Thompson did not ask for Dobson's attack and should not be expected to grovel to him.

The name of Christ should not be wielded like a club to exert or gain personal power. Fred Thompson has been the adult in this relationship. Dobson has gone down several notches in my book.

The lurkers might also be interested to note that Kevmo likes to refer to me as “she” even though he knows I am a man. It’s all very petty and personally abusive.

The reality is, you are a tootyfruityrudybot who is shilling for a liberal. I expect people like you to have an antichristian bias. It looks almost like Rudy’s whole gambit is based upon giving the socon base the back of the hand. But I do not expect such bias from conservative freepers who want evangelicals to vote for their candidate.

This CONSERVATIVE, Christian and most of my friends and relatives voted proudly for Fred. Would do it again as he is the only real conservative in the race.

Where in that post do you think I did that?

***Right here. It is an asked & answered question.

ari-freedom: On the other hand it is pretty safe to say that Fred is not an Evangelical and I don’t think Fred would have a problem with that as he never claimed to be one.

Petronski: I’m not an Evangelical either.
