SIOUX CITY, IOWA -- Fred Thompson continued to fire back at reports that he will drop out of the race if he has a low finish in Iowa, this time saying the press was partly to blame.
“I’m afraid the media never gets tired of allowing itself to be used,” he said. “And I think that quite frankly the media is being used for purposes to hurt me here in the last few days because they see what’s happening.”
What’s happening, according to Thompson, is that some polls show him gaining in Iowa. “We’re working day and night for the last two and a half weeks,” said Thompson. “We are surging in the polls.”
This appearance was the senator’s last before the caucus, and he said he felt confident as he headed back to Des Moines to await the results.
“It will be in the hands of the good Lord and the people of Iowa,” he said.
“And I’ll be perfectly happy, I think, when those results come in.”
The Press is virtually dead panning Fred. They don’t want him. They want him to go away. I’m donating again tonight no matter what happens.
I’m hopeful that Fred08 will be sending out a donation request e-mail, but I can understand if they’re holding it for the final results out of Iowa.
Fred’s getting money from me tomorrow. Wish I had the $250 to toss into the kitty that so many others do, but hopefully he’ll have a watershed day in campaign fund raising for the all important South Carolina primary.
I think I will send another check his way as well. A Huckabilly nominee scares the bejesus out of me!!
I want to know why the media is not talking about Fred tonight. Him coming in third is the second biggest Republican story of the evening.

I wrote a letter to the editor in my local paper mentioning Fred Thompson because he’s the total Republican. He’s right on all the issues according to our recent party platform in 2004.
I read somewhere that GWB won Iowa in 2000.
Fred’s 2nd place showing at my precinct was a great showing, beating out Romney, Gullianni, and McCain...and there were NO Fred Thompson banners up on the wall, there were plenty of Huckamigo and Romnesty ones up. I would’ve brought mine had I known.....this was my first caucus....lesson learned!
I knew FRed’s been out there converting the heathens while wearing out his shoe leather in Iowa, town by town. I didn’t know he was driving the extended-cab version of my mid-90’s truck. The man knows an awesome machine when he sees one. I know a conservative candidate among a raft of pretenders when I see one.
Just made my donation. FRED will hang in there. FRED is not broke...could not be. FRED may be frugal to fight another day, but not broke.

Fred finished second at my precinct to the Huckster...but came in ahead of the rest of the field. I was dissappointed that there were NO campaign signs of FRED hanging on the walls....I would have brought mine with me had I known, this was my first ever caucus and the lesson was learned!
