Is this the same Bratton that cleaned up NYC for which Giuliani is grabbing the credit?

He hired him. In Philly the new mayor, aptly named Nutter hires an ex DC chief. See the diff.

Ya know, I honestly thing it’s a mind set too. Cops are like everyone else. They live amongst us. They too saw the scourge brought on by gangs and low life that thought they’d take control. I honestly feel that most cops nowadays would much rather go after the real criminals as opposed to going after citizens for simple infractions and low level misdemeanors.

I personally can’t stand gangs, or even wannabes that dress down. If they trip, I do *everything* in my power to make sure they fall.

Bill Bratton is a great cop and always was. He was in Boston and New York City before LA. Here's from Wikipedia:

In 1994, William Bratton was appointed the 38th Commissioner of the New York City Police Department by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani. He had success in this position, and introduced the CompStat system of tracking crimes, which proved successful in reducing crime in New York City and is still used to this day. A new tax surcharge enabled the training and deployment of around 5,000 new better-educated police officers, police decision-making was devolved to precinct level, and a backlog of 50,000 unserved warrants was cleared. The CompStat real-time police intelligence computer system was effectively introduced and integrated into police working. Police numbers were further boosted in 1995 when New York's housing and transit police were merged into the New York Police Department. Bratton left the job in 1996 after alleged personal conflicts with Giuliani.

In 1996, Bratton was featured in a business case prepared by James L. Heskett and published by Harvard Business School (Ref 9-396-293). Bratton's efforts to effectively turn around the New York City Police Department is used by many business schools as a tool for teaching organizational design and change.

Since the 1980s, more middle class Black families left the South-Central (now South L.A.) section for other suburban communities. In 1970, Blacks made up 18% of the city’s population. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, African-Americans are 11% and some demographers expect the percentage will be cut in half to 6% in the next decade. Los Angeles’ Black community has been dramatically improved, though a Black underclass continues to reside in lower-income sections of the city.

-exactly—likewise Chicago and NYC—the rationalization of the drug trade into a peacful semi-monopoly has done wonders—

A bigger man would have given credit where credit is due. Perhaps Nutter will have nuttin to brag about. We'll see.

Well, if I were a Democrat trying to explain away the success of the surge, I guess I would say:
"Big deal, that only means there are fewer people left to kill"

That is true. Rudy was once described by Bob Grant, the talk show host, as a "cold man".

But the fact remains, Bratton was not the one that implemented California’s mandatory minimum sentencing guide lines or 3 strikes. I like the other poster feel this was a huge factor.

The gangs have taken to burying the bodies?

The reason it's down is the fact that the LK's and la Eme is targeting the black gangs. It's hard to commit crime when you're running for your life...bwahahahahahahahaha.

It's a regular Rwanda in certain sections of LA with the "ethnic" cleansing going on.

Of course that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

It’s pretty amazing, Los Angeles has far less crime per capita than both Dallas and Houston Texas.

I believe Bratton helped clean up the department where it needed it, but the drop in crime has as much to do with three strikes as anything else. IMO, the crooks got the message. Crime has dropped in LA year after year, even before Bratton came along.

Exactly correct.

But I thought that the illegals were causing a wave of rape and murder throughout Los Angeles!

From where I sit, I can tell you that, while there are certain crimes where it is common to have an illegal perp, in the case of the truly bad crimes (murder, rape) it aint the illegals doing it, at least not in Jersey.

I can’t speak for New Jersey, but illegals cause a huge amount of crime. They are big into drunk driving, theft, drugs, burglary, tax evasion...Stuff like that, and don’t be fooled, they do drive murder rates up.

Most of the time you here an illegal getting locked up around here it is for drunk driving, drunken and disorderly conduct, sexual assault (usually of an ex-girlfriend), and the occassional stabbed-in-a-bar-fight.

Oh yeah, illegals like to shoot cops to death too. Seems to occur at a disturbing rate.
