That’s what I call a tight race.

We've both been here more or less 6 years, and I'm betting neither of us has seen the flame wars brewing here like during this primary season. Pretty amazing and sad (we're losing respected FReepers in the process. Hopefully they'll stew a bit and return home), however with no "heir apparent" to follow President Bush, we're left to boil down the pool of candidates until we get the right conservative. Everyone else is going to get scalded.

Well, to some degree, it's the nature of the primary beast.

But secondly & more importantly, the GOP has also grown more values-liberal. Just as we saw this enormous gap between conservative values & liberal values open up in the late '60s, so it is the beginning of this same gap opening...If you don't recognize this, then you wind up just chalking up these flame wars to the flamers themselves...and that would, at least in part, be an incomplete take...some flamethrowers--at least the less substantive ones--are just onery & will flame away @ whatever's not in their own best interest...but others "flame" because of principled conservativism--a liberty in & of itself worth fighting for...

This contest is going to be bitter for the GOP no matter how it turns out who wins. We're so divided at this point. Hopefully the bruises will heal over the next 11 months. We need to win this one regardless of who the nominee is.

I know you & others are well-meaning, in the proper anti-Dem spirit. But frankly, there are some GOP candidates--namely Rudy & Mitt--who if nominated...would do greater long-term damage to the GOP if elected to the POTUS.

What's even more short-sited for the "short run" (meaning the period beyond the primary lasting til the general election) is the lack of comprehension about what would occur if nominees like these were put forward. If Rudy were nominated, pro-life & evangelicals would skip the POTUS portion of the ballot in droves...If Mitt is nominated...well, just wait til the MSM & Dem "presentations" of him are put into wide & consistent play...it'll be MSM fireworks & "track record pinball" (both social issues personal record & LDS historical record) like you've never seen...I mean, just imagine for one moment what an Obama-Romney match-up would look like...(Romney was an adult when the LDS church still excluded blacks from the priesthood on the basis of a proclaimed "cursed" skin color...reflecting a racist god behind their helm)

“RESULTS:
Clinton 0; Obama 0; Edwards 0
Huckabee 0; Romney 0; McCain 0; Paul 0; Thompson 0; Giuliani 0”

Looks like there might be room for someone to fill the vacuum!

“Our primary job as Christians is not to act as unpaid support squadrons for one or the other of these politicians.”

Huh?

See Matthew 28: 19 & 20 !

Big turnout (out the door down the hall) at the GOP event on C-SPAN 2. The hall is not big enough.

Iowa is all about the ground game. We’ll see after tonight if Ron Paul’s campaign is an ethereal Internet phenomenon (ala Dean 2003-4) or something more substantial.

Is there a way to cheat in the Iowa caucuses?

The bottom line in this Opinion Journal story is that while the Republicans cast their vote with a slip of paper, the Democrats have a mind-numbingly complex system in which participants divide up into "candidate preference groups" by standing up. No paper ballots are used. Those candidates who don't get support from 15% or more of those attending a local caucus are deemed not to be "viable," and their supporters have to realign with some other candidate.

Further, for the Democrats, the state party can bend the rules as described in the article so influence can directly result from who has the best organization/spends the most money. That may mean Hillary...

The sad thing is, that Huckabee and all his church groupies don’t even have a clue as to how they’re being used.

Oh Huck knows, and if he doesn't he isn't fit to be President. His followers, probably not. They are most likely good people following the wrong drummer.

They can't see that Huck will lose. They will get plenty of those good old socialist, caring programs, minus the Christian part.

Christian charity and goodwill are not legislated.

They are fooling themselves.

All I really care to hear is that Clinton does not come in first. Of all the candidates, both parties, Hillary is the only one I want to see get the wind knocked out of her. The field might not have anyone truly great, but the Democrats have someone truly evil - Hillary Clinton!

I know what you mean. I always used to feel reasonably confident with whomever the Republicans settled on, even if I had a few disagreements around the edges with the nominee. After all, it was the party of straight-shooting law-and-order. The Dems were always the ones into subterfuge, putting on the calculated facade of moderation for the public, while stomping headlong into socialism once they’re in office. I always felt I could pretty much ‘trust’ what Republican politicians said, generically speaking. They might veer a little left or a little right, but they weren’t all-out pretenders.

Yet, now, thanks to pro-amnesty Republicans, I really find I can no longer maintain the same kind of auto-pilot faith I used to have in the Party’s choices. The whole shamnesty insanity really became a watershed moment in my political perspective. I’m not going to be giving my vote to anyone until I feel 100% confident they will secure the borders, and never serve up amnesty.

19 Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

I doubt Christ was referring to political talking points.

Then I think its time for Christians to stand up and make it known, very loudly, that Huck does not speak for us all, nor will he ever.

ABC News entry polling confirms 2-man race for GOP with Huckabee small lead, 3-way for Democrats with adv. to Obama & Clinton.

Obviously rough results.
